Perspective on Who draws the most interest at rush:

Phi Mu: Large in state and southern OOS interest and If nothing else most nearly every Pam wants to see if they can get a bid at the "big beautiful white housenon the corner.

AXO: Great reputation and broad in state interest. Make everyone else feel welcome at rush as well. Create a sense that "you could fit" even if you aren't and will never be on their radar.

KKG/DDD: Not quite as receptive as AXO, but they focus in Mobile-Birmingham instate, and OOS from larger metropolitan areas can feel a potential fit as well.

KD: Similar to above, but start to more strongly project disinterest.

PiPhi/ZTA: In state interest isn't great for these houses in general but they will each generate Great interest from the OOS which is a large percentage of girls. These houses don't rank top because they don't draw in state, but there is great interest at rush.

AGD: While the southern religious rep will limit interest of some in the end they do a good job in recruitment.

XO: while this is a must house for mostly the non Mobile/Birmingham in state and a few southern OOS girls, which creates a notable draw, if this isn't you, you'll gladly run another way.

APhi: A bit more polarizing so some stay away, but similar to PiPhi and ZTA otherwise as noted above.

phi mu definitely gets a lot of attention/hype during rush, there are a lot of pnms who are completely turned off by the well-oiled machine that is phi mu during recruitment. I personally liked them, but my rho chi was split— girls either loved them or really didn’t.

I also don’t think they have the most in-state pull at all... there are a number of girls who go phi Mu from Alabama, but phi mu doesn’t really appeal to the down to earth girls. They’re strength is recruiting beautiful, put together girls from all over, but only a very particular kind of girl goes phi mu from Alabama

I’d say KKG puts on the most fun rush. I ended up in another house, but most of the girls in my rho chi felt really welcome there even if they ended up getting cut after first round, and their sisterhood round especially had lots of us feeling like a party (not the college type just in general) that you wanted to be a part of. I’m a more quiet girl, so I ended up elsewhere but after my own house, it was my favorite house to go to. That being said, I could see how their energy could be overwhelming, but their appeal is still more broad than Phi Mu. (I agree with #1 on them)

KKGs pref round weirded me out. Dropped them in my ranking as a result but really wanted them going in.

I'm OR - Northern OOS.

Agree with OP on XO. Just didn't get them during rush, honestly still don't. They seem to have their type, based on my rho chi, they don't appeal to many others that aren't already part of what they are looking for.

Think OP does a good job of noting what houses appeal across in-state and out-of-state lines, and accurately portrays which houses generate the most interest during recruitment.

This isn't a rank per se. In state/OR still drives ranks

But if you are arriving without friends in houses and such, the OP does a good job noting the most competitive houses and where interest is greatest overall during recruitment.

I would put KKG and Kappa as having similar interest. They appeal to the same kinds of girls and are both very competitive/sought after during rush.

I also think that Tri delt is probably one of the most widely appealed sororities going through rush. I wouldn’t say they’re top house, but Tri delt has such a wide variety of girls that a lot of people can see themselves being happy, even if it isn’t their first choice. They have a much less distinguished stereotype than other houses (phi Mu = pretty girls, alpha chi = smart girls etc)

I don't think there is any one top house at Bama, but tri delt is most definitely a top house for a lot of girls, both in state and OOS (esp from the bigger cities).

I agree. On one hand, it's a strength because it means they appeal to a wide variety of girls, but on the other hand, they're quite easy to forget. Even chapters that are less desirable have things that people remember about them, and Tri Delt sort of falls into the background. Chi O, AOII, DZ, and GPhi are like that to me, too. Like they're obviously all different, but they're just not "in your face" all the time.

Yes sorry— meant KD and kappa my bad!

I just think they’re pretty similar houses who recruit pretty similar girls with slight differences. Kd has better grades/ is more involved (but neither one is known for this area) but kappa does better at recruiting OOS girls, esp in Atlanta and other big cities

The reason some say stay away is because of their lack of sisterhood and horrible academics.

i’m sick of people talking about other houses” sisterhoods when they literally know NOTHING about it, only rumors. literally you don’t know anything at all so stop acting like you do.

I think its cool Phi Mu and Alpha Chi pull girls from all over. It shows they care about the quality of the girl too not just where they are from. Personally think its the reason they've pulled more ahead of Kappa and KD who typically only take girls from certain areas.

Agree. Both could use more of a northeast presence, but they definitely spread things out. Honestly, I think most northeast girls are more at home in NR houses anyway so it all may be by choice of the pnms. That is, a top pnm from NYC area may be sought after by everyone, but chooses APhi, ZTA or GPB based on fit and being an independent thinker.

It is a rare situation where a Northeaster pnm will truly fit at one of the OR houses and thrive there. It can and does happen, but it is the exception not the rule. Chicago area is almost the same. It seems California and other west, like Colorado, do well in OR though and the girls I know in the OR from the west are happy. So, oddly, it seems like Western and Southern and Midwest like OR, but Northeast is sorta its own thing and they are drawn to some o the NRs.
