why is the number of in-state girls so important?
by: OOS?Hey! I'm from OOS but coming to bama in the fall. I noticed a lot of the rankings here hugely value high numbers of in-state girls. I personally don't get what being from in state or out of state has to do with what you bring to a chapter? Why does that factor into rankings?

OOS - usually better grades, more diverse
In state - as above posters said, better retention and better connections.
Connections are also important because that means actives know what kind of person you truly are before recruitment. It's easy to put on a facade of being a good person before recruitment (cough cough...) but if you're going to college where 50% of girls from your high school go, they will know if you can hold your own at a party or if you'll cause a lot of drama. But that doesn't necessarily mean you need to be in-state to have those connections. Girls from Georgia or Texas still have those in-house connections, just not to the point of certain towns in Alabama that are essentially feeders to certain chapters.

It's much easier to get into ANYWHERE as a transfer student than as a first-year applicant (trust me, I almost transferred from UA and got into some crazy competitive schools with an iffy GPA, so I know.) PSU's average admitted GPA is around a 3.6 for high school students so I would not be shocked if you could get into it with a 3.0 or 3.1 as a transfer, especially if you are in-state.
