what should i do?

I'm a 3x Alpha Phi legacy rushing this fall. My grandma and mom really want me to join Aphi because they're really proud of their affiliation and are still involved with nationals and donate regularly. However, I don't think they're aware of the current stigma surrounding alpha phi at bama, and just to be honest I don't think I'd fit in at that house anyways (I'm pretty average looking and I really care about my grades.)
I'm scared that if I don't go Aphi than my family will be upset, but if I do go Aphi then I won't truly fit in. Anyone have any thoughts regarding my situation?

Their sorority experience was great for them but would be a different thing for you and you ought to be able to choose what's right for you. Explain to them your concerns and see what they say. You need to start talking now so they have a chance to get used to the idea that you don't see yourself at your legacy house. You don't want to lay this on them after they start getting their hopes way up.

Ok im not a a phi here I'm in another soroity but I don't think the situation really put that big of a stain on the house. the houses are so big here and I feel she acted as an individual because I've met lots of alpha phis and they've always been so nice and polite. as far as going a certain house to make your mom happy, maybe don't do that. I've seen a lot of girls do that and regret it their while college experience. But wait till you get to Rush to judge A phi! :)

by groups who compete with aphi for new members.
aphi took rapid action to de-activate the person who made those statements. one person does not define an entire house of 450 people.
also, try to get a job anywhere in the country by promoting your phi mu or kd affiliation, for instance....lol

Unless you are SURE that putting your affiliation on your resume will help you, leave it off. That goes for everyone. Too many people have a negative view of Greeks these days and they might judge you as an entitled, hard-partying, liability with a bad attitude. If you can't be sure how the hiring manager feels, best to leave it off. You can tweak your resume a little for each different job you apply for.
