i'm a legacy from the north

by: Tri Delt Legacy

I'm a Tri Delt legacy from the north and will be going through rush in the fall. Will I automatically get a bid?

Also, sometimes people from the north aren't familiar with recommendations or "recs." You can learn about them at Bama's Panhellenic website. Look under Recruitment and go to Letters of Recommendations. All PNMs at Bama (and everywhere in the SEC) need them. Alumnae are already sending them in, and will be all summer, but Bama has (in the past anyway) always requested them by mid-July if possible. If you aren't already working on them, now is the time. Again, good luck to you during recruitment.

So do I need a recommendation even if I am a tri delt legacy or if you are a legacy can you skip the recommendation? Since I'm from the north, will extra recs help me? Also, if Phi Mu is my second choice will being a legacy hurt me even though I have a friend in the house?

You do not need letters of rec if you are a legacy, or if you know someone in a certain house. Rec letters are only for houses you are interested in, but don't know anyone. A friend in the house will weigh more heavily than a letter from some random alum.

Ok.... Phi Mu is a GREAT house at Bama. (I attend a nearby school) The girls in the house are gorgeous, but they don't flaunt they're looks. You also dont get to pick and choose what sorority you want, especially PRErush. Welcome to the South honey. Rush is a dog eat dog world.

You might wanna look more into phi mu's reputation before you make them your second choice...just saying. However, I'm sure you'll do fine. They bid a lot of girls from the North. And just a tip, stop putting so much of your personal information on here. If you are already deciding which sororities you want to join BEFORE RUSH, you will be blacklisted for sure. The girls who do the best go into recruitment with an open mind.

Extra recs: from the Panhellenic website: "While it is common to send multiple Recommendations/References to one sorority from separate alumnae; it is unnecessary to exceed more than two. Please use personal discretion when deciding on how many Recommendations/References will be sent on your behalf." Extras say "desperate" and load sororities with more paperwork.

About recs only to sororities you're interested in: dangerous! Top interests might cut you, (even if you have friends inside) but there's other great chapters. You don't know anyone, though, and didn't get recs. Could be bad. From site: "While Recommendations/References are not mandatory for every sorority, it is important to realize that some chapters may have policies that require PNM’s to have at least one Recommendation/Reference on the sororities official recommendation form in order to be eligible for membership." Do you know which ones require this? Play safe: recs to every chapter, because if favorites drop you, you'll want to find new ones, and open minded PNMs can.

Legacies don't need recs: never, EVER heard that one. Most want glowing recs. Why? Legacies are everywhere, hon, and lots get dropped. And the houses might be ones that require recs. Can't hurt if a legacy connection also sends a Legacy Introduction Form, downloadable from nationals.

Who says all recs are from random alums? Many know the PNM very well.

Really trying to help, but if you don't get open minded, it could be a hard week for you.

Oh, my, word! You will be so very fortunate if you get a bid to any house at Alabama. Most of us have already made a little not beside your name (you've been a little indiscreet on here!) and I'm afraid you won't have many invites. Having warned you, however, just do realize that all our houses are good and if you even get one invite back, you should treat those girls like gold. Otherwise, you'll end up in a dorm or apartment, living by yourself...
