new sorority (not sk)
by: HmmApparently kappa beta gamma, a non NPC sorority, is on campus trying to establish a colony right now. My friend got an email about it and a sister was approached by them at the Ferg. Has anyone heard anything about this? All I know about them is that several of their larger chapters have disaffiliated from their nationals and become NPC chapters. Kinda seems like a red flag org.

Think about the costs and benefits of greek membership to women on many big campuses today. As inclusive of all women students as NPCs are, there will always be a gap between those who desire membership and are invited/bid and those who are not joining.
KBG appears to want to fill a niche for women uninterested in a 'typical' NPC experience, and according to a post above they plan on colonizing on some huge greek campi (Mich OSU Mizzou Indiana Bama). While KBG may believe that's a big step in the right direction toward their eventual NPC membership, it remains to be seen if these new colonies take a good hold and last.

I have a friend in a KBG chapter up north and she told me they have been approached by NPC about joining before. From what I've gathered from her, they don't have quite enough chapters to join yet and are more focused on smaller dues (which would increase if they joined NPC) and tighter-knit communities. They were having problems with chapters closing because they were under poor leadership and their Nationals didn't have proper trademarks, patents, etc. Now that has all been fixed and they are in the process of recruiting more and more chapters and growing their presence in the Greek community. While they definitely won't be top tier here at Alabama, they will offer a way for girls who can't afford greek life/are intimidated by the process of joining an alternative option.

Yall I don't really think it's far to judge KBG so hard when they are literally brand new. They aren't NPC and righteously didn't have to ask "permission" to come here by NPC. Give them a chance! They have the potential to be successful here if people open up and give them the chance to. The main appeal of KBG that I've seen is that they are cheaper than NPC -- but other than that, they seem like a regular sorority just like the NPC ones. These girls could be different than other KBG chapters that have crashed and burned, and I'm honestly rooting for them because from what I've read in this discussion, they have all the odds against them, and I wanna see them come out on top.

They just announced new colonies at UT Austin and Penn State. As for UT, good luck with that, but I wouldn't be surprised if they affiliate the AXO chapter that got their charter pulled at Penn State. (After Chi O lost their charter a few years ago, they did something similar and reorganized as a chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, the service GLO.)

The question is, what do they have to offer to a PNM looking for an alternative sorority experience that SDT or a niche group like ADX doesn't already offer?
