I would say yes.

It is ESPECIALLY helpful for old row houses. I don't think anyone could argue with that. However, it can also be helpful at new row houses because if you are in-state you are more likely to know alums from UA. It is way easier for a girl from MB to get 2 strong IN-HOUSE recs for every chapter than a girl from Chicago or Massachusetts.

Without a doubt, if a pnm is from mb, stav or mobile, it impacts their rush. But it can be good or bad, depending on their relationships and connections. there are actives from those areas in all the old row houses and most new row. if a girl is well respected and liked and is from mb, stav or mobile, they are going to be in very high demand. if they are not as well respected or not well liked or were considered awkward or had a run-in with an active back in high school, they also could be screwed. So it is a risk reward thing for those pnms.

I would put hoover and oak mountain in the same category as mb (the "over the mountain" area). there are no secrets and no surprises. whatever you did and whatever you were in high school is there for the sororities to consider. same for Huntsville/Madison/Decatur/shoals and also for Montgomery area. IT is also sort of like that for any major metro area in the south that has a lot of actives. like definitely Knoxville, Nashville, Atlanta.
