getting a bid from axo or xo

They are both harder than any olther old row except pmu. I'd say those two plus pmu are the three hardest bids. Well, maybe throw kappa in there with them.

you will have little to no chance without connections. even with all recs. and amazing grades to give a grade boost, there are many,many hundreds (thousand or so) just like you - very pretty, extremely smart, involved, great conversation. without knowing people who will pull you through the house you should plan on being cut. you should realize that you will have a much better rush experience if you don't go in wanting a house because it doesn't really matter what you want. you get what you get and you will be happy that you made it through. if you get what you wanted, lucky you but don't count on it.

This is really exaggerating.
If you ACTUALLY look at the pledge classes for AXO and XO, you will see that maybe 40% of them are from out of state. Even if half of those OOS girls have connections in some way, that means a full 1/5 of the pledge class has 0 connections. At this point it is simply impossible to fill a class of 140 with girls you already know.
Yes chances are lower for this girl than they would be for someone with connections but I think saying OOS girls have "no chance" at old row houses perpetuates a stereotype that is increasingly untrue. The reality is that girls without connections ARE getting into old row houses on merit, and the old row houses that won't take them are the houses that are falling.
