sophomore pnm

by: UO

Hey y'all!! So I rushed this past fall as a freshman, and ended up dropping out in the middle of the week. It didn't go as I thought it would, and I just honestly don't think Greek life is the right thing for me right now. With that being said, I probably am going to try rushing again next fall as a Sophomore! However, I literally have no idea what to expect rushing as a Sophomore versus as a Freshman. Can anyone give me some idea or share some stories related to Sophomores rushing? I know this is all super far away, but when I get my recs do my rec writers just fill out the forms with my high school information, and do I do the same when I register for rush through Panhellenic? Also, is it hard to make friends after bid day considering that your pledge class is mostly freshman? I know it's so many questions, but I would be so grateful for any information! Thanks y'all :)

-How your sophomore rush goes is based largely on how strong your connections are in every house. Houses that you aren't connected to will not give you a second look if you dropped last year, especially the houses you had left when you quit.

-Your high school information is irrelevant now. It's all about what you do as a freshman. So get AWESOME grades, be involved, maintain a clean rep, and connect with sorority women (see above).

-You will register for recruitment, submit recs, etc, just like you did last time.

-Making friends is going to depend on who you are and how much effort you make. Reach out to everyone and they won't treat you differently.

Thank you for being honest!! I only had one house left when I dropped, so I'm not super worried about that. As for the recs situation, what should I include in my rec packets if my high school information is irrelevant?

Everything you put in your old rec packet, but relevant to freshman year. Your resume, your freshman year transcript, pictures, etc. In the real world you need to update your resume every few months to make sure it only reflects your most recent jobs/accomplishments/etc. This is similar.

You can probably include stuff you did senior year of HS but our hope for sophomores rushing is that they've done enough notable things with the past year that they don't need to still be bragging about being a JV cheerleader when they were 16. I'm sure you'll have plenty to add!

I could be wrong but I've heard that recruitment for sophomores can be disappointing! It's just another hurdle to overcome! I hope the best for you though!

Go for it I'm sure it will all turn out fine. I know a junior who went phi mu this year. Don't listen to these losers.

Hi I rushed as a sophomore and although I didn't have a full schedule every day, I did still have several "top" houses. Ended up in a top old row house so from my perspective, being a sophomore was no different and I didn't know anyone in any house which may be why I didn't have a full schedule so work on getting connected this year!! Most importantly get good grades though. I know sophomores who pledged adpi, KD, Zeta, Tri delt, alpha phi, gphi, Phi mu and I'm sure plenty more. From my experience and many other friends I made through rush that were sophomores, being a sophomore doesn't have much effect on you as this site likes to make it seem. Good luck with everything!
