by: True

Some girls are said to drop out and go Rush Ole Miss and come back a year later and affiliate. Any real truth to that GRSnopes?

Mom here.

Back when I went to Bama they were girls who rushed at places like Auburn, UNA, USA, MS State, etc and then transferred to Tuscaloosa for spring semester in case they wanted to be in a certain sorority and weren't sure if they could make the cut at UA.

This is the main reason why transfers technically must be voted on in order to be re-admitted to a chapter. That rule did not exist until girls started using this loophole.

Affiliates are never really welcomed into the house like true pledges are. That's a dangerous game to play that rarely works in your favor.

I've seen girls rush at Bama, not get the houses they deem worthy, and transfer. But at Alabama, there have only been a few that do that. At Ole Miss, it was so bad that they moved rush to well after school starting. Now, if you don't get what you want at Ole Miss, you'll lose a whole semester's worth of grades, tuition etc. by transfering right then.

I always thought it was stupid. If you pledge somewhere else and transfer, there's no guarantee the chapter will affiliate you. Yes, some sororities have a policiy of affiliating everybody, but not all do. Even if they do, you might not be quite as accepted as someone who pledged there.

We had a few girls transfer in and affiliate. They were valued and beloved members.

I always wondered why Ole Miss waited for such an awkward time. That makes sense though.

Can confirm that my house has had several transfers and we love them. You'd have to be a really special sort of person to not get along with anyone in a group of 400+.
