Theta took 192. Remember quota is a minimum, not a limit. Houses may take extra girls for a couple of reasons...

1) Smaller chapters often take quota additions because they have smaller-than-average older classes or lower-than-average retention and want to ensure they stay competitive in terms of total #s. If small chapters don't take bigger PCs they will just get smaller and smaller over time which makes paying for that new house, operating your meal system, and recruiting strong PCs in the future much harder.

2) Because everyone who goes to pref and maximizes their options gets a bid, the less "desired" houses in a given year are going to have more girls. A top house might get 90-95% of their first bid list, which means their entire second/third bid lists are dispersed among "middle" houses, which means the second/third bid list of the "middle" houses are funneled into the "bottom" houses. Houses with poor return rates take the most girls to pref which in turn means they have the most girls on their lawn the next day because those girls weren't on the first or second bid list anywhere else.

3) Because they want to. Sometimes you hit #140 and you just really like the girl who's #141. Simple as that.

To the poster above me that started with, "Theta took 192". If your explanation is correct, please explain how a house like Alpha Chi only took 135...five below quota. Does that mean they went through their second and third list and still didn't reach 140? If true, how will this affect their return rate percentage for next year? I'm confused!

Some houses (and I cannot speak directly for AXO) will only list 140 women, and if 5 end up elsewhere they only get 135. No house is forced to take an extra 5 if they originally listed 140.

Don't think much of that is correct.

1) Quota additions are not for the chapters to get larger, they are for PNM's who maximized their options and didn't get matched to get bids. Quota additions are about the PNM's NOT houses needing to take more.
2) Quota is a maximum, not a minimum. You can't take more than quota except for quota additions, which is for the PNM's benefit, not the houses'.
3) You can't decide to take more than quota "Because they want to." No, just no.

How can quota be a maximum if quota additions exist? Quota additions ARE what make quota a minimum.

That's why they are called quota additions. They are above and beyond quota. They used to not exist. Many really great girls would get crossed with their ranks vs the houses' rankds so that they did not get matched at all and that was it - no bid. Therefore quota additions was instituted to reward PNM's who stuck it out and did their best for every single house but still didn't get matched. So much better now. It is absolutely not to help houses get more girls.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound condescending, I was just explaining why this happens and mentioning Theta because they took an unusually high amount of quota additions so I knew the commenters were referring to them. Theta did wonderfully as did everyone else.

I 100% believe every sorority here is great. My house is a house that takes high PCs every year which is why I can provide insight into why. The logistics behind it don't make MY house (or any house) less amazing. Sorry that didn't come across in my explanation.
