chances with top 2
by: PnmHow often do girls get their third choice? I was very torn wth my top 2 and I'd be so happy with either of them. I told them both I loved them. Number 3 is a great house but doesn't compare to the others. I told them that I thought I had found a home in another place. How likely is it that I'll get my top 2??

Not necessarily. You are required to be at the top of your legacy house's bid list, which means if you rank them #1 then you are automatically in. If you rank them #2 or #3 then you will still be at the top of their bid list but could be matched with your higher-ranked house(s) first instead.

Not true. Bid matching works off the PNM's rankings, not the chapter's. The system will first try to match you with your first choice. If you are on their first bid list, you're in. If you're further down the list, you will be matched with them only if they haven't yet made quota. Then, if moves to your 2nd choice and the process repeats. If you don't want your legacy house and are high enough on another chapter's bid list, you'll get another house. It doesn't matter if the legacy house had you ranked higher.
Now if you do want your legacy, you're in luck as I think most (if not all) chapters place legacies at the top of the first bid list. So if you ranked your legacy #1, there is almost no way you wouldn't get a bid.

The stats I've seen show about 90% of pnms get their 1st or 2nd choice. A lot of schools have gone back to the 2 Pref system this year (Georgia, Texas A&M) because of that.
So odds are you will not get a bid to your 3rd but there is a definite chance that you could.

I ended up getting my third house on Bid Day. I was initially disappointed, but it definitely ended up being the best option for me. I think I was one of about 10 people who had this experience out of the 2,000+ rushing, based on the stats provided by Panhellenic.
My best advice is to prepare in case you get your third house, but don't worry too much because it probably won't happen - even if it does, all houses at UA are great!!
