I know DG and Theta are strong nationally. DG was ranked second out of all sororities in one poll I saw after Alpha Phi.

Theta does indeed have a strong national presence. They provide tons of leadership training for their current members. While they tend to struggle with popularly in most SEC schools they are top in tons of other major universities like SMU, UN, USoCal, UT, etc. I am a Theta alum and as I travel for work, I've always been so proud of my association because everyone I meet seems to think highly of Theta.

Theta and DG are incredible strong nationally. Alpha phi is usually top tier but I know that their reputation of being hot easy partiers is actually common at most schools.

DG - strong
GPB - ok
AOII - weak
DZ - weak
Theta - strong

DZ is the 3rd largest Panhellenic sorority. Perhaps not great in the south

It goes:

XO
ADPi
DZ
AXO

I am not a DZ, but one of the orhers listed above. Recent alumn sitting at I got from joining my local alumni association. Yes. It is a consideration.

Having the most members does not make a sorority "strong" nationally. For example, some of the sororities on your list are known for never closing chapters - even weak or problematic ones. This tends to mean having less engaged alumnae even if there are a lot of them.

Others on your list have a gazillion chapters at tiny schools. Those sororities don't tend to have major alumnae presence in larger cities. Whereas the stronger, better organized sororities may have 3+ active alumnae chapters in major cities (a junior group for recent grads, a daytime group for moms, and a suburban group for those who live further out) PLUS a group that supports the philanthropy year-round PLUS an advisory team for the local collegiate chapters, sororities with less engaged/ organized alumnae may have just 1 alumnae group trying to juggle everything.

Not arguing, genuinely curious--I thought ZTA was second biggest?

Yes! This is accurate.

I think both KD and ADPi are stronger than they usually get credit for. They may not have as many chapters in certain regions but most of their chapters nationally are quite good.

Agree that PBP is only "ok", no longer strong.

Phi Mu is absolutely not strong outside of the south. Heck, I wouldn't even call them strong outside of the state of Alabama. They let their non-southern chapters wither - they have no idea how to operate outside of the SEC.

The comment about ADPi was interesting to me. My friend is in it, and she's constantly raving about it to me. From everything she says, it seems like it should fit the qualifications for a top national house--all over the country with a lot of good chapters, huge in numbers and chapter size, good expansion, leadership and options for undergrads, there aren't any sorts of internal scandals, broke Panhellenic records for their sorority day of giving a couple times, very good reputation, etc. So why aren't they considered as dominant, particularly if some like APhi and Zeta are? It's important to have all different sorts of experiences available to offer women who rush, but I've always gotten the impression Zeta and especially APhi are more shallow.

DG and Theta are huge, top tier sororities nationally- in the same pack with XO, Kappa, Pi Phi, and Tri Delt.

Gamma Phi is a notch below - big, but not as prominent. Nationally sits with Alpha Phi, ADPi, Zeta, AXO, and KD.

AOPi and DZ are much smaller and tend to be a little more regional.

I think Aphi is above GPhi/AXO/KD etc. They OWN the west coast, a lot of the midwest (michigan, illinois, etc), and are very good on the east coast as well.

Top 7 nationally is Kappa, PBP, Theta, DDD, XO, Aphi, DG. Maybe ZTA in there too.

I struggled with APhi and Zeta. I don't think they are quite as strong nationally as the ones I listed, but I agree with you that they are a step above Gamma Phi, KD, AXO.

I'd say the strongest national sororities are DDD, Theta, DG, KKG and XO. PBP, Zeta and APhi (to some degree) are good nationally but not as strong as those first five.

Agreed with a lot of the above, ones that are strong all around (in college and out) are probably KKG, XO, Theta, DG, and TriDelt. My twin older sisters were in Theta and DG in college and they both got involved in their alumni stuff when they moved to new cities and said it helped them make friends and stay connected (one is in the northeast and one is in Texas).

Neither went here so they don't know how crazy y'all are about tiers, but they told me that I shouldn't just worry about what people think here because it's the rest of life that's gonna count more. I haven't had a full schedule but I'm comfortable with what I have left and hopefully will love my sisters as much as my sisters love theirs.

Newsweek ranked sororities national strength as follows

1. ZTA. 2. DG. 3. KKG.

It's the first thing that came up when Googling the subject. I have no "dog in this fight".
