I still don't understand why my options were so limited, if any actives could give me advice/behind the scenes knowledge that would be great. I'm far OOS (which I understand makes me unappealing to OR which I was expecting), had a 4.0 in high school, have a year's worth of college credits through dual enrollment and my GPA for that is higher than the highest sorority average here, and I got dropped by 11 houses for philanthropy, even AOPI where I had the best conversation. I just thought first round was supposed to be grade cuts, but that doesn't seem to make any sense with the GPAs of the houses I have left now. I'm just worried that the sorority I join will bring me down in grades because their priorities lie elsewhere.

Did you have reca? You own your grades just because a house does not have a high gap doesn't mean yours will suffer. You sound like a great student so that shouldn't change unless you do.

I am sorry you have had such a bad rush :-( It is hard but to be honest we can't really tell you why you got cut in a lot of cases it really is a numbers game. I know you have a 4.0, extra curriculars and I'm sure you were popular and are cute / beautiful too- guess what you just described half of the girls going through. Being far OOS does hurt you because honestly if we have to pick between someone we have no clue about and someone we know or know of- we are going to keep the one we know. That is just simply the truth. It also sounds like you are coming in as a sophomore and quite honestly most houses would rather have true freshman because you will be with us longer. It sounds like you still have one left- and that is great- it only takes one. It has been said 100 times on this website our chapters are so large that you will encounter every type of person you can imagine in every single house. So if grades are important to you then you will find the brain girls who study all the time. I think you are getting WAY TOO WRAPPED UP in what other people are saying about houses and not really focusing on you. Good luck.

Honestly some girls just got lost in the shuffle. Every house makes decisions a different way and while most girls get lucky for some houses and unlucky for others, there are always some who get hurt by the numbers. There are so many PNMs coming through and it is so hard to decide who gets an invite and who doesn't. My situation was VERY similar to yours, 4.4 GPA with a full year of college credit from my AP classes. but I only had 6 invites for philanthropy. It happens.

Do NOT worry about your sorority bringing your grades down!! There are girls with high GPAs in every house. Most if not all houses have some kind of mandatory study hall (you could even ask about this during pref if you want specifics!). Stereotypes are stereotypes. If you prioritize grades over everything else then you will continue to get good grades, regardless of what the stereotype says.

Also... remember every house wants higher grades. Constantly. Every house knows it looks bad to be below the undergrad or all-women's average. Seems like every house is making small pushes to become more academic right now, regardless of what you hear on GreekRank. You could be part of that push for your house. Good luck!!!

Two possible answers stuck out to me: you didn't mention having any recs and it's possible houses considered you a sophomore because of your colllege credits.

Other than that, the brutal truth is that every year great girls fall between the cracks for a thousand reasons. It's not that the houses didn't like you, but they had other pnms higher on their list.

Finish the week and trust the system. The houses inviting you back see something in you that fits with their sisterhood. I know it's difficult but every house offers pretty much the same sorority experience. You'll have a huge pledge class and will make friends. And don't worry about grades. Every single house has 4.0 girls! You control your GPA and it sounds like you'll do great academically regardless of where you pledge!

Yes! It only takes one house.
If somehow it ends up not working, you can always keep Sigma Kappa in mind for next year if you get involved in other activites on campus.

right there with you. I had all the recs. and have greater than 4.0 gpa. Lots of great activities, attractive, and popular at home. I am good at being sociable and getting to know people and this process is so hard. I was shocked after IWT at my card. The conversations were strong, my clothes on point, I have made many friends in the tent but it is not translating into the houses and it is hard. I have loved almost every house and am thankful to have some left. I don't think there will ever be an answer as to why we were cut from so many houses without being given a chance. It is just tough when everyone says first round cuts come from grades and repuation risks when all of the great girls in the tent that I have met had brutal first round cuts and all of the horrible, fake, mean girls are dancing around and flipping their hair and flashing their full card.

Oh, goodness, I remember that. So many awful girls being rewarded for their attitude while so many sweet, wonderful PNMs fall through the cracks in one way or another.

Keep your chins up, lovelies, I promise that EVERY house one your card is a fantastic place to be!!! You are not alone and you will find your people.

I'm the OP, While my credits technically classify me as a sophomore I'm a freshman I'm taking on a minor to kind of replace the credits I took in HS, yes I had recs for every house except for one OR, but majority were not by people who knewe really well.
