by: pnmThis round when I visited the first 7 of the houses on my schedule, the actives directly asked me how many houses I had been invited back to. Not thinking of any ramifications I was honest and answered that I was lucky enough to have been invited back to 12, but followed it up with how excited I was to be at their house. (Which I was!) My Rho Chi later told me that they weren't supposed to ask that and in no way was I supposed to answer because they were looking for information about competition and by answering I could have really hurt my chances. Now I am worried that I really messed up.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. They definitely should not have asked. Please DO NOT beat yourself up for "messing up" because you didn't; you did nothing wrong. You were asked a question and answered it in an honest, diplomatic way. Not your fault AT ALL and those actives should be ashamed of themselves. Wishing you the best.

I got asked this question too! I was sort of caught off guard, but I just played dumb a little and answered "I have 3 more houses to go today!" and immediately asked her a follow up question about herself so that she couldn't clarify or try to re-ask the question. An older friend recommended me to purposefully play dumb and have a snappy question ready to redirect the conversation.
