how did a girl from new hampshire with no real connections get into KD last year? What could she have done to really stand out like that

No matter what a house's reputation is, if a girl has something that house wants then she'll get a bid... For example, if a girl with a 3.0 is coming through but she's drop dead gorgeous and/or knows important alum then she'll get a bid even though AXO is "known" for only taking smart girls. So with KD, even though she's from the NorthEast, that girl may have had stellar grades or something.

reality is that KD took what they could get in PC16. Lot's of average to above-average PNMs ended up falling to them in later rounds and they ended up with girls they normally do not pledge. In other words, they under-achieved versus normal results for them. Two years running.

I live in NH and there's actually a lot of girls from my school who ended up at Alabama with me. Many of them are wicked fun, gorgeous, and way richer than me (brand new range rovers on their 16th birthdays, summer houses on the vineyard, etc etc fun stuff like that). It's not like KD is some big catch anyway, but don't think "there's no way that pledges from NH could be up to standards". She could've been a legacy for all you know.
