I've tried to follow this but still seeing no comments. My parents have asked as well as they're concerned about my safety here. I've tried to google. Was he Greek?

He was 34 years old at the time of the incident, so, no.

Of course he was "an adult" at the time of the incident but was he Greek as an undergrad?

Jeez. Does it really matter whether or not he attended Bama and whether or not he was in a fraternity? What he did is a reflection on himself only. Stop trying to put pieces together that don't belong. Also, if you're so interested just Google him... He's a well known business man, there's a lot of information on him online.

One more question- how does security and DDs work for sororities? I need these answers no matter where I pledge.

By: PNM
by: Ok

So ask once you pledge. My sorority does not allow DDs but some do you you should really just wait.

DD= designated driver, aka usually a friend in your group who stays sober and makes sure everyone is safe/gets home safely

I need to know before I'm initiated but preferably before I pledge. Why would a sorority not allow designated drivers? I'm fortunate ate my parents still paid for UA after all the news reports. Do sororities have security guards at all times or just weekends?

You are such a troll. EVERY SINGLE University in this country has the same problems and issues. Where else would they send you that is so much safer?

Maybe you should consider Community College, except attacks happen there too, and they don't always deal with it well.

Just stop

Thanks for your time, Troll. My questions are responsible and legitimate. I hope that if houses haven't considered making this information available to parents- this post will cause them do to so. I hope and pray the house I receive a bid to is responsible and safe and more respectful than some of the posters here.

I won't stop until I have the answers to satisfy myself and my parents. They have insurance questions as well (this happens when your parents are attorneys!) but I doubt anyone here can answer those. Hopefully someone on EC can answer these or provide co fact I formation for someone who can on bid day.

Thanks again.

Here's what they're going to tell you.

1. We have a rent-a-cop who comes at night.
2. We have act card scanners on the doors.

That's literally it. Not sure what else you're going for. You sound more and more like a troll with every post.

"Insurance" questions? You think these sororities that are worth millions of dollars don't have their insurance sorted out?

OK, thank you. That helps a lot. I'm guessing parents can always pay for e tra security if necessary.

Thanks!

LMAO,

I think it's unwise to make any assumptions based on the law replies. Of course we think the houses have insurance but my parents have more detailed questions. It comes with their field of expertise.

Security isn't hysterical. Simple answers to my questions would have been practical and realistic. I hope my questions are taken seriously by those who are in decision making roles and help someone. \n\n\n\n\n

DD- Designated Drivers

By: PNM
by: Hey

Your parents would've been dumb if they didn't pay for Alabama based on this incident. Something like this can and does happen all over the country regardless of what name is on the School buildings.

If your sorority doesn't allow DD's, they probably allow something called an Uber.

If they don't have security guards, the WHOLE school has Campus Police, and I swear every time I get into my car and drive, I see one or two. Their presence is known rather or not they are strict is a different story but its there.

Im gonna reach into the well and grab up another answer.. Its really up to you to keep yourself safe. Don't put yourself in compromising situations and I am sure you can get through 4-5 years. Take a deep breath and breathe. Youll be fine. Tell mommy and daddy that this can happen anywhere in the world and unless they want to fork up a bubble and keep you in there, then they have to chill out too.

Hey,

Thanks for your reply. My parents are concerned and are definitely not dumb. They're both UA alums themselves and both were Greek here. You're right that these incidents occur in other places but the cover-up and concern about safety is legitimate. The news is very concerning as it seems crimes are possibly being committed and perpetrators go free in Tuscaloosa. It's my parents money that has been and will be going to both UA and the house I join (and I'm not sure yet if I'll follow in my Mom and Grandmother's footsteps and join their house). I wouldn't dare reveal who I am (obviously). When Mom was here, all they needed to get in the house was a door code and she thinks it was changed each semester back then. I'm not the only PNM wanting to know more about security measures and parents will be asking questions too- at bid day and later on. I hope each house can go over this with them and not treat parents as if they are dumb since they are the ones paying for all in most cases). I know all about personal safety but I think always having a plan is a good idea.

Hm, it seems that sisters who do not know answers to questions automatically label posters as trolls. Is that how you'll respond in person when you're asked this question?

Going on four years in my sorority and no one has ever asked these questions because once you pledge the answers become obvious and the question becomes dumb. You can't wait eleven days?

Hm,

First, unless you're in a tiny house, I doubt you know what he or hasn't been asked by everyone. The current news story was sadly only made public this summer. My Mom was on the committee handling the building of her new alum chapter there. Like I've said in another post, we're aware of her house's info. Yes- please be prepared with this information in 11 days. We appreciate it and others will too.

Seriously not finding info on Panhellenic website or sorority sites about security. The girl who is all over the news was Greek. We just want to know if sororities have taken action to keep members safer around town. Legitimate question as I'm going through recruitment. Im seeing questions about "shacking," drinking, etc. When my Mom was here she said her house had both actives and NMs ("pledges" back then) take turns being DDs (designated drivers).

Maybe the News person asking about him- that was dumb. Security is not dumb.

By: PNM
by: Active

No we haven't changed anything because what happened had nothing to do with the fact that she was Greek? Like if you go out to a bar on a random Tuesday the sorority is not responsible in keeping you safe, that's on you.

As for date parties and swaps, we've been doing this for a long time. If you don't trust that we have a process worked out for keeping our girls safe just don't rush because no one's going to explain it to you.

Hi PNM!

Don't let these not so nice responses make you feel bad for asking an intelligent question. Your parents love you and you respect them. You're obviously well-rounded and a tasteful and classy young lady - your grammar and your subject is far better than most questions we've been seeing about drinking, clothing, and snacking. You're concerns are legitimate. You're not blaming this on being Greek or on the Greek system. I'd say "pledging" (as my Mom also still says) a sorority is actually keeping you safer than being independent! You'll most likely be with sisters when out at the strip or at parties. Just based on this post, I'd think you are a great sister because you listen, respect others (even when you got some tacky responses), and are thinking ahead. I'm willing to be your grades are excellent, you're involved in your community, And you're a leader. Those are attributes we WANT, ladies!! I think I already know who you are but it's absolutely ok and I'll keep it private!

Thank you. I appreciate your reply and that some sisterhoods are taking our questions seriously. I'm not the only one with questions- other PNMs have the same ones and are reading these comments too.
