2nd thoughts, handmade clothes
by: SeamstressI don't want to brag but I've been sewing (or helping my grandmother) as long as I can remember and I'm very good. As in I made my own prom/hc dresses, tailor everything for everyone I know and make my money by doing that and making custom dresses/pieces. I hope to make a career out of it after I learn the professional/business side in college. I've never felt uncomfortable in anything I make. However I went to a weekend long wedding event with the super wealthy side of my family and got some major shade when we were all talking about rush. I have a few choices of handmade pieces and off the rack to choose from. I know girls love to ask "that is so cute, where did you get it?" I just don't want to feel awkward.

If this is real (and it could be) then that's really cool. Just make sure your dresses could ACTUALLY pass off as higher end clothes in stores. Honestly we see so many outfits only the really bad sticks out. Actives have too much to ask in a short time... We don't care where it comes from.
Just wear whatever makes you confident. It is very normal to have 2nd thoughts this close to recruitment.

Thanks for boost of confidence! 2 of my snobby cousins always try to make my feel bad. "Your little designs are so cute" "You must save a ton haha". It was in my head, along with pre rush nerves.
It definitely is a passion and not because I am poor. I probabbly right now have 10k of machines, fabrics, drwasng supplies and other materials/equipment.

I know a girl who rushed in an outfit she made. Actives loved it. She ended up in a top OR house if that matters.
I think it depends on the style of the clothing. If it's alternative looking or obviously handmade, it's not going to make as good of an impression than if it is really well made, looks expensive, and is on trend.

I'm a fashion major here in a top tier old row house. I love wearing anything and everything from Effie's. I couldn't find anything I absolutely loved so I made my bid day outfit this year. If you feel confident in it and it looks high quality, then go for it!!! Girls that have any idea about sewing have no right to judge you. I know half the crap I buy from department stores I could easily make myself and other people couldn't.
