drastic cuts
by: PNMI have seen multiple posts on here about girls going from 16 house to 5 or something along those lines... if you are one of those people do you understand why you were dropped from so many houses or were you blind sided? Was it grades or conversations or recs? Or were you totally blindsided and devastated?

I went from 16 to 5 and I think the biggest thing was that I didn't have recs. I was a decent PNM (not amazing but decent) with a 3.5 unweighted GPA, good extracurriculars, from a nice area, and I had great conversations with most of the houses on IWTs. However, I got recs for I think only 3 houses. I was 100% serious about rush and had been dreaming about it for the past like year but I just didn't realize how big of a deal they are to some houses. I'm also from the North so it wasn't like I had any in house connections.

I went 16-8-5-3.
I had about ten recs. Interesting that it wasn't a topic of discussion as much last year! I got cut from many old Row houses where I didn't have as many recs. Being from the north, I knew no AGDs or AXOs. I did have recs for KKG and DDD. Made it to sisterhood with KKG and dropped by DDD after IWT. You could easily find yourself in NR! Don't worry! I love my NR house.
Hope this helps!

I went from 16 to 9 to 5 to 3. I had good but not great grades, I'm pretty attractive but kinda introverted. I had a tough time making small talk at parties. Funny because I'm a junior now, and recruitment has given me confidence at talking to anyone. I think I was just sort of awkward right out of high school, plus I was oos, so didn't have as many connections.

I went from 16-4-3-1. I was completely blindsided. I had at least two recs for every house except MAYBE one or two. I had a 3.5 unweighted GPA, very high test scores, decent involvement and leadership, and I am a very outgoing and bubbly person. I cried when I saw my party card. I didn't understand. I am a little bigger than most girls, but I was very well put together and looked good. Everyone kept telling me that cuts after the first round are for grades and PR risks, but I had great grades and was not anywhere near being a PR risk.
Unfortunately, I got a bid to a house that I thought I liked, then was bullied and harassed so badly until I dropped. In hindsight, I wish I would have dropped the rush process and done COB.

And to answer your other question, I was just extremely surprised and a little sad. At the time I didn't know why so many houses would drop me at once but now looking back and knowing what I know now, I really do think it's just because I didn't have recs... Which btw I think is a huge fault on Panhellenic. I mean I'm not trying to blame anyone for anything, I know I had the opportunity to get recs and I just didn't get all of them, however I think that Panhellenic should tell PNMs which houses require them and which don't.
