active invited me to house?
by: 2018 pnmOne of my friends that's an active on OR invited to me stay a weekend in the fall at their house. Is that allowed? Should I network while I'm there? I'm rushing in 2018 btw

I can't remember if that's in the fall too or just in the spring but in the fall most people if asked would just say they're undecided on Alabama/rushing/whatever so they're not really a PNM yet. But honestly people do it in the spring too it's hard to get caught if the girl isn't a well known pnm

I would also make sure I kept as quiet as you can about it - in talking to friends and SM. Many a PNM has been rushed hard by a group only to not receive a bid from them on bid day. Be careful not to say to friends/acquaintances "XYZ is rushing me!" Also, you don't want other groups saying not to bother with you because you are probably going XYZ.

I call BS. Do I think this happens? Yes. Do I think that someone comes on an anonymous site to ask about it, like there might be something wrong with it, when their 'friend' asks them to come stay with them? No way.
If this were real, and you were worried, you'd ask the people that actually mattered. Also, how did you just get admitted a few weeks ago?

UA starts accepting applications July 1, and you usually receive a reply two weeks after. I posted on here because there really isn't that much info on the Panhellenic site. I know this one girl in the house and didn't want to be rude by asking her. Jeez not everything is a "troll"

She's about to be a freshman but doesn't want to rush until sophomore year. It will give her time to get connections with all the houses and get recs.

Even if its technically before recruitment begins? Because don't you become a pnm once you register and that's not until spring

This early on no one cares. If anyone asks, which they won't, do what the above poster said and pretend like you probably won't go to Alabama.

It's seriously page 3 of recuitment guidlines. "PNMS may not participate in overnight stays with active sorority members at any time" they make exceptions for sisters but you have to tell panhellenic her name, when, and why she is staying. PNMs are never allowed to spend the night in the sorority house. If panhellenic finds out, the girls have to go to Panhellenic judicial because one pnm with at least 5 actives is considered to be the sorority. If 4 or less members involved the house must punish the girls and give a report to Panhellenic. Now when all that happens don't you think the other sororities will know who you are?Is the original sorority still going to want you when they get in trouble (not that your friends could get you a bid in the first place). Will other houses want you since you cause trouble, will they think you are just completely focused on house xyz? Rush is competative enough without all that. Come to bama. See your friends, tour the house if you want or come to game day. But I would find somewhere else to stay and if you go to any fraternity parties don't take or post pictures or tell people you are in highschool. It's your life but these girls will always tell on other sororities so if I were you I wouldn't.

It depends on how you define "PNM." If it's before registration and the no contact period, she's not even considered a PNM. She's just a friend. In the time from now to 2018, she could change her mind about recruitment, decide bama isn't for her and rush at another school, or she could find the sorority she originally wanted wasn't as appealing to her anymore.

Not really since panhellenic defines the normal visiting hours for "women interested in greek life at UA (high school seniors and women considered to be upperclassmen)". Panhellenic wouldn't make the clarification if it were not true. But like I said, its her life and if she wants to take the risk cool, but she also risks the consequences of that and she should be aware of what the rules say. Everyone gets to decide if they follow the rules but there is no reason to not inform them of the rules. OP I recommend going on the Panhellenic website and read the recruitment guidlines under resources. That is where the actual information is.

This kind of thing happens all the time, panhel never finds out, and more importantly no one cares, because it's not a big deal. No active seriously thinks a girl who lives in a sorority house shouldn't be able to have a good friend come stay with her just because she lives in the house. Even if Panhellenic did find out houses wouldn't cut a girl just for that. This is a non issue

@Ok exactly. This rule is one that I would consider overreaching by Panhellenic. According to the rule, "PNMs" (aka ANY high school upperclassman) can't stay with an active at any time even in an apartment. I'm sorry but sorority life is not everything and I'm going to have my friends over if I want to. Some rules are just too much.
