carry to pref just to get friend

by: I95

Ok, somebody who seems like they would know just told me a "recruitment trick" that she says some houses at Alabama do. When there are say, two besties but a house only REALLY wants one (they would take but don't really care about the second), they will take both to pref and then put the one they want on their first list and put the other one down near the bottom, where they expect they will be full and not have to take her. It is assumed both friends put the house 1 on their card. It was brought up to me in a "be careful" kinda way. Is this really something that happens? That would be pretty cruel.

No. Sounds like an urban legend started by a bitter friend who didn't get into the same house as her bestie, nothing more.

Would never happen in my house. We can't afford to do that with RFM.

Interesting but seems paranoid. Certainly would be a dirty trick to play on both. The top pnm gets mislead into thinking the house wants the pair and the less desired pnm gets potentially hung out. Even if she gets a bid, she comes in as filler. Plus, where there is a pair of besties and one is super strong and another is just good, most houses go with the package without playing games to try to trick the top pnm into putting them 1st after pref.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen, Ive ever heard of it. also we have 2,700 PNMs to sort through, who is who's best friend is really the last thing on our mind.

Unless the friend had a horrible reputation or terrible GPA, we would just take them both.

From what my aunt who went to UA has told me this did use to happen a ton pre RFM but I know my house wouldn't do it these days
