true "ranks" and "top" houses
by: hmat the end of the day it's about where pnms wanted to go. its very subjective but you can't say a house is top if they're just getting whats left over. instead you can place in categories. for example how do people place axo over zeta? okay axo is involved, smart, etc but they don't even go for the same girl so how can you really compare and say who is better? zeta wants stylish girls, your insta models, trendy girls. so you can then start to rank and compare them with girls similar: aphi, pm, pbp. imo it should be: axo, ddd, kappa, xo, agd, kd, zta, aphi, pbp, and phi mu as the houses that kind of make the choice on who they want and compete amongst. then adpi, dg, dz, aopi, kat, gphi kind of fight for the leftover and overlooked girls which is why their pledge classes are so random and mixed. (this isn't meant to bash these houses either bc they still get great girls, a lot low radar or overlooked).

a lot of the "leftover" girls are just really low radar. they have no ties to alabama or greek life and then end up in the leftover batch. a girl in my high school was cheer captain, known to be pretty and popular, but came in not really knowing much about greek life or rush week and didn't really prepare (which is not good to do especially coming from somewhere random). she joined one of the houses mentioed as "leftover" but just trying to highlight it isn't a bad thing and it doesn't mean the girls that get all passed up from the rest are weird or anything.

I would say no recommendation letters. Let alone reaching out before the May 1 contact deadline. And no preconceived ideas.
"Just showing up" and seeing where it takes you limits the options for "top" houses. Agree, it's not because some of these girls aren't great, they just didn't "play the game". (I know that sounds harsh, but don't know how else to say it).
its easy for those types to be passed over by top houses even if they have perfect resumes.
Some houses require rec letters or you are dropped after IWT.
Despite great credentials these girls can have fewer options.

Not sure if a house like ADPi (and possibly PBP too) fights for "leftovers" because their girls tend to have the involvement/smarts of AXO/XO without the southerness. They aren't leftovers because old row never pursued them; they belong in their own category and they get the top girls from that category.

Must people, over time, can see that ADPi over promotes on GR.
Not saying its bad house, but they must have one (or a few) members, alumnae, or moms who go a bit overboard on GR.

Everything the OP said is subjective. You can say that a house that has just one "type" of girl makes a house top, however, you can also say that a house that has a variety of "types" makes that house top... Some girls don't want to have 400 other sisters who act just like her, take AXO for example, there may be top PNMs who are really smart and involved but want diversity in her sisters so she may be turned off by how AXO has just smart and involved girls. And same goes for houses that get the "leftover" girls, some top PNMs don't like the diversity and want to be surrounded by 400 clones of her...
At the end of the day, ranks don't mean anything. You guys can keep ranting about how certain things make a house top and how certain things make a house bottom, but everything you can possibly say is subjective. Different houses want different things, different PNMs like different things.
Also, I love how the OP found a way to hate on Phi Mu. They're a top house, everyone knows it... Stop reaching.

op never dissed phi mu at all...and second its not about having the same exact girls but there is some cohesiveness and the houses getting the girls they want. every house has a mix of girls but some chose their mix and some just got left with the randoms to choose from. alpha chi has smart girls but they're not all the same kind of smart girl. cohesive yet diverse. get it?

Not that I believe most anything on GR, but look at the post on "houses at pref". I do believe it's "honest" and not people posturing or promoting. So, doubts aside, I am believing that as "real".
It shows how "close" many are between top and lower ranked houses.
Very few girls have top houses across the board. I realize it's biased by who is on GR and wants to post. but it does show how this cross rush and reputations (in terms of very clear distinctions) are kinda BS.
What you see are generally very "different" houses girls have at pref.
To me it proves more of the similarities. Yes a handful of girls may give a house a "reputation" - good or bad - but after that the girls are WAY MORE SIMILAR than different.

And also this may come as a shock to some but there are girls who chose those sororities over the "top tier" and are perfectly happy.
