transferring
by: PNMHi y'all I am a PNM and I can't wait to attend Bama in the fall. I am rushing and OOS and a huge part of my decision to come to bama was that I did not want to transfer.. I want to stay at bama all 4 years. However after hearing of all the girls who drop and transfer (especially sorority girls) I am scared to death. Can any upperclassmen ease my mind about how much they love bama & sorority life?

Basically this site highlights all the negative parts of greek life. Thats why we all say not to listen to this site. I love bama so much and I love my sorority I literally miss bama even when I'm on tropical vacations. I cannot wait to get back to school and the thought of transferring makes me feel like I would literally rather die than leave here.

I mean I don't think anyone goes to school intending to transfer but it happens for various reasons. I would say the further you are from the south the more likely it is. I would also say that it's way more likely for transfers to be kids who came here to party or those who didn't do great in high school but think Alabama will be an easy school to party at and still pass, which in truth it's not

So here's a little story for you OP: I applied to Alabama in April fully planning on transferring after freshman year. I got rejected from all the colleges I applied to and was scrambling to find a school that would take my application so late. I went into rush excited but knowing in the back of my mind that this was only temporary.
1 year later, I would rather die than transfer. I love my sorority with all my heart and I love this school more than I thought that I would. I dreaded leaving school after my freshman year and I couldn't stop talking to my dad how excited I was to stay in Tuscaloosa next summer when he picked me up from the airport. It all works out, trust me!

You just really need to prepare yourself. If you're going really far from home, it's going to be an adjustment. The weather, the culture, your family and friends not being down the street, starting college...you'll be moving into a tiny dorm room that will probably make you sick the whole year. Rush is so fun but physically and emotionally exhausting. Then you're thrown into hard classes along with sorority events and trying to get involved in other things and still have a social life.
Starting college is hard but it's SO worth it. Give your sorority a chance even if it's not the one you wanted. There are amazing girls like you in every single house. If you don't find your best friends on bid day, give it time. It sometimes even takes till sophomore year to find your true friend group. Have a healthy balance - work hard in classes and study, but still making time for a social life. But don't neglect your studies to party. Chances are you'll be overwhelmed with all the changes and all the responsibilities when you start college, but if you give it time and really try in school and get involved in your sorority and make an effort to form friendships, then you should get the most out of your college years.
This is the truth for every college. Even if you transfer, this would be the same way at your new school. Just work hard and enjoy every moment!! It's so much fun and the hard times are worth it

Agreed. My sorority is mostly OOS and I can think of a lot of girls who have left Alabama, but only one left because she wasn't happy at UA and she was from Oregon so she was REALLY OOS. The other girls either flunked out or stopped being able to pay for it and that probably would have happened anywhere they went
