Hello girls,
I just want to get your perception of each sorority based on social media, videos, talking to some of the girls one on one possibly because you know them. What are your thoughts so far so us actives can get a better idea of how our houses are being perceived? I sometimes wonder because this website tends to change people's minds about houses and sometimes creates a negative perception of good houses, so I'm just curious as to what your guys' thoughts were about the houses right now?

There are certain houses I'm liking more than others but at the end of the day I know I'll be happy anywhere.
At the same time I am super anxious that rush might not be for me because I am not a typical southern sorority girl and I don't know if I can find my home. Have to put faith in the process I guess.

Just based on what I've seen on this site and what I've heard from other PNMs, I feel that as someone from the Northeast, old row houses probably won't be as interested in me... And that's kind of discouraging considering I'm very open to all houses.
But overall I think all houses seem fun. I want to get better grades in college so I'm definitely going to be looking at the "more academic" houses closer. Also the Zeta insta stuff kind of rubbed me the wrong way. But as of now I'm not set on any house and I'm excited to meet all of them!

My personal opinions: (1) Some of the sororities post quotes and things from actives in their houses and some post girls from Alabama more often than girls from OOS which kind of perpetuates the whole "no yankees on old row" stereotype" and makes me shy away from getting too interested in any OR houses. (2) Also, there were a bunch of Thetas, ADPis, Tri Delts, and Gamma Phis in the Rush GroupMe at the beginning of the fall that were giving tips, answering questions, and making everyone feel better about rush and starting college which I thought was really sweet and it made me think more highly of those houses, it'd be cool if more girls in different houses reached out like that.

Hello girls,
reading some of these comments made me exceedingly upset. I'm so sorry some of you guys feel as if you're going to be unwelcomed by certain houses. I ended up signing up for recruitment really late, I was unable to get recs because it was past the deadline and I was planning on going to another school until June of 2016 (I'm PC 16 btw). After looking at everyone's Instagram and realizing how much everyone else had prepped, I figured I had no chance of surviving recruitment. The only houses I got dropped by during recruitment were AXO, Tri Delt, and Alpha Gam, I'm also OOS.. so I had no connections so that doesn't surprise me. I ended up preffing Phi Mu, Pi Phi, and KKG. For a girl being OOS, signing up last minute, and having no recs, I think I did pretty good. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you have a good personality, involvement, good grades, and OF COURSE recs help, you will do amazing and you will find where you belong. I promise.

Honestly, I think the people on here are crazy, and I don't think that this site has any real basis in reality of Greek life at Alabama. I think most people on here are trolls.
I think that every house will have people that I'm gonna like and people that I'm not gonna like. We are talking about girls here, and a LOT of them. I think that whatever house I end up in will be damn lucky to have me, just like I will be lucky to have them.
I also think I'm bringing too much stuff to school with me, and I should apologize in advance to my roommate.

To be honest, I wish I never looked at this site. I have been looking forward to rushing these past few years and decided to come to Alabama not knowing anyone, but fell in love with the school on my campus visit. Even though I am a OOS Southerner with great grades, after reading all these posts I am now incredibly nervous about the actual process and am fighting preconceptions of the some houses based on what I read. Coming to a school that is not filled with your friends from high school is a chance to meet a group of girls that I really click with, and now I wish I had gone into the process not worrying about the stereotypes from this board. I am just going to trust the process and hope I land where I belong.
