advice for pnms

by: Active

just some advice from a rising senior for PNMs! Feel free to add
1. Drink so much water during rush. Start now though so you don't have to pee every two minutes lol. You should be drinking half your body weight in oz every day
2. Bring a waterproof bag that zips, a towel to sit on, and blotting paper with you during rush. If your bag is generic looking toe a ribbon to it or something so that you can find it in a pile of 100 other bags
3. Don't let tent talk get in your head. If you make recruitment about anyone but yourself you will not be as happy with the results.
4. Talk to your rho chi! They're there to help you and can answer a lot of your questions
5. Don't wear perfume during rush!! Just lots and lots of deodorant
6. If you get a bid you are not happy with, give your house an honest chance. So many girls who are disappointed on bid day end up loving their houses
7. Once you get a bid spend as much time at your house as possible, you will meet so many more people and really feel like you are a part of the house

Be nice to everyone. Actives, rho chis, fellow PNMs... we're all stressed out and tired. We're all trying to make it to bid day in one piece. Even little things like complimenting someone's dress or offering them an oil blotting sheet if they're running low can make someone's day. Don't talk badly about anything or anyone because you never know what the girls overhearing your conversation are going through.

It's a tough week. Let's not make it tougher.

#3 and #6 are two of my most important tips I could ever give to any PNM!!!

When I was a PNM I loved coming on this site and honestly the ranks/tiers stuff really skewed my opinions on a lot of house. Because I was so obsessed with getting a bid from a "good" house I automatically went into rush knowing I didn't "want" a few certain houses. Low and behold I ended up getting a bid from one of those houses I originally didn't like... At first I was extremely apprehensive and I strongly considered dropping all throughout Bid Day. However I decided it was worth sticking through pledgeship to see if I could make do and if I still really didn't like the house then I could drop before initiation. And now I love my house, truly. It's not a house known for status yet it's still offered me a community of genuine girls. I can truly be myself in my house and my sisters support that, which is something every PNM should be conscious of during rush...

It's not about the tiers, it's not about what the girls look like, it's not about what frat guys think... Rush is for you to explore which house will help you evolve into your best self with a house full of girls supporting you along the way.

Good luck everyone!!!

My advice is to keep your thoughts on houses to yourself, don't share info on your party list, and don't tell anyone the order you prefed.
