dz suggested gpa

by: Q

Do y'all think DZ raising their suggested GPA will help or hurt them? Not asking to start any hate, I applaud any house working towards high GPAs, I just know they don't have the ability to be as selective as other houses with suggested GPAs above a 3.0

I think that they're definitely trying to pledge more academically outgoing girls. As of right now, they're a solid bottom tier house with a mixed pledge class and they're not really known for anything. They're also on the lower half of the grade scale. So I think DZ's change in their suggested GPA is just an attempt to better their house from the inside out. Will it hurt them? No. I know their nationals doesn't have a set GPA for PNMs to have... So their 3.2 suggestion is basically just a suggestion... It's not a set in stone rule, it's just a way for their house to push themselves to become slightly more selective with PNMs and grades. However, will they continue to pledge grade risks? Yes. This is going to be a magically change over night. I can't imagine seeing DZ become significantly more selective during rush for at least a few more years.

If you genuinely believe that then you have really missed the entire point of what a sorority is. Not every house on campus can be top and not every house on campus needs to be known for something. Being in a sorority is about finding your home in something bigger than yourself and that's what DZ and every other house here, whether it be top or bottom, provides for Alabama's young females. And if that's something you can't recognize then you joined this Greek community for the wrong reason.

I'm SO sick of seeing people pick on lower ranked houses JUST because they're lower ranked. It's sad and disgusting. And no, I'm not from a lower ranked house... However, I have so many friends in these houses and they're really genuine people. These girls don't need status to be happy. I think the biggest reason why people pick on lower ranked house is because these miserable people see girls having fun and being happy in houses that aren't top... These girls are enjoying their sorority experience and aren't held back by opinions, reputations, status, etc. which is a lot more than some of y'all top tier girls can say.

bump for everything @act said..... so true, you really have missed the whole point of being in a sorority. Not every girl is caught up in which house is the "best," which is a relative term because it's different for every pnm

@really?

I agree. I could practically feel the sarcasm in @aw shucks comment. That said, even though I think she missed it, @act's words were brilliant.

I think if they genuinely cut below a 3.2 it would hurt them. I would imagine they take a decent number of grade risks every year to balance out girls who aren't as pretty or social. If they are just saying it to look more academic I think it could help a little.
