new sororitys
by: curiousDo you think alabama is going to get a lot of new sororities? Like were getting a Sigma Kappa but will we get a TriSig? AXiD? If anyone is in exec and knows more than I do I'm really curious haha

Problem is there aren't a whole lot left who could afford a house here or have the staff available to make a colony here successful. Theta phi, asa, ast, Phi sig are all automatic no's due to size. That leaves alpha xi, dphie, aephi, tri sig. Out of those I just don't know who would be more successful because they are not big in the south. Alpha xi has been here so they have alumnae, but idk. Technically Panhellenic wants three more sororities but it seems unlikely.

I think the most realistic path forward is to have SK and AXiD re-join campus and SDT start participating in formal recruitment. That's the most we can do.
The real solution would be for the university to get more selective to keep pace with our rise in application numbers instead of just increasing enrollment with every new class. Overcrowding isn't merely a Panhellenic issue, it's a university issue.

Our greek system would be improved overall if we were to get as many chapters here as possible. Pledge classes of up to 200 just isnt ideal when it comes to sisterhood. Its just hard to get new sororities established on campus but I think it would be worth the effort, especially if rush sizes keep getting bigger.

IU has a cap on PC sizes, and while they seem to like the exclusivity of their bed quota, I just think it's an overall bad idea. national panhellenic doesn't support it and it leaves soooo many girls without bids. I also don't think panhel is allowed to institute grade minimums, so I think allowing chapters to not take girls if they're grade risks regardless of how many PNMs there are, and increasing the number of chapters is the best route. DPhiE just colonized at UGA and they seem to be surviving, and I think SSS and AXiD could make it here. It's just up to the community to be welcoming and supportive of SK so other chapters want to come here. it's mutually beneficial.

I could see introducing a grade cutoff and maybe closing registration earlier, but trying to artificially cap quota and total would probably be a hot mess.
Until three or four years ago, Ohio State capped quota at 25 and total at 100, no matter how many PNMs went through. It was mandated by the school because the administration is anti-Greek, and it did have the intended effect of keeping participation down because few girls saw the point in even signing up. Now that they've moved to quota and total, participation is going up and up.
Ole Miss and State have started doing variable quota to even out chapter sizes and help the top houses get smaller. Lots of drama, of course. State is moving recruitment to the first week of school this year because so many PNMs packed up and left last year. On the other hand, Theta at Ole Miss got their best pledge class in years.

Forgot to mention SDT- they have basically increased their membership x10 in the past few years and if they keep on I think they'll be able to move to the row when construction is over, which is good timing for them actually. Then they can participate in formal. A lot of people want them to be forced to do formal asap but that would be a horrific failure
