sigma kappa

My mom is a SK and really wants me to be one too. I keep going back and forth on if I want to rush this year or wait until next year so I can be a SK. Is that dumb?

do not do that. Sigma kappa is going to take a few years to become a good house. I know your mom probably really wants you to, but joining g a sorority is not about your mom. It's about you! Your mom won't be the one making new friends & forming bonds with your sisters. Join a house that you click with. I also definitely wouldn't wait a whole year just to be in the future bottom house.

Some people say bottom, some people just don't rank them until they are established. It's not bottom like "they suck yada yada" but just they are new and don't have any street cred. But after that typically they will have less desirability during rush because they are new which then leads to them being bottom.

It's not dumb that you can't decide, that's really hard for you I'm sure. I personally would at least give rush a shot this year, if not to just get a feel for it. You just have to decide what kind of experience you want- joining an established chapter, getting a big, having a house right away, or getting to influence a chapter that will hopefully be here for many years. I'm not saying one is better than the other but they are very different experiences and you have to decide which one is best for you.

I think you are just entering Bama too soon and the timing is off for you and sk.

You can always rush and drop even after you get your bid. The MRABA is only binding for a year after receiving your bid. SK is coming next fall so you'll be able to become a colony member.

Yes, but OP should not count on that. Even colonizing sororities at large/competitive schools will interview MANY more girls than they will accept. Especially if you went through rush, experienced bid day with another house, and then dropped out, your chances of getting into SK may not be as high as you had hoped.

colonies will usually take legacies. the moms/grandmas usually want to help out the chapter grow and thrive so nationals is all for that.

definitely go through rush. at the very least, even if you decide to drop out and pursue SK, you'll have had the experience, met new people, and practiced for SK's recruitment. you never know what will happen, so don't miss out on any opportunity!
