drinking

by: Drinking

I know all houses drink but there are some probably less. I do not drink at all. But, I do like to have fun and go out some. Please no rude comments. Are there ones where I will not fit in? I do not want to be treated weirdly but I do not plan on drinking for my own reasons. I don't care what other people do as long as they respect me too.

There will be girls who don't drink almost everywhere but not many in some chapters. I think you might be in a very small minority and made to feel that way at :

Zeta, aphi, kd, Kappa, and a little but at Pi phi and phi Mu.

Just wouldn't have as many people to hang out with and some probably wouldn't make you feel as welcome tbh.

Honestly, you'll probably have the hardest time in Alpha Phi, Zeta, and KD. APhi and ZTA are huge party houses... Are there girls in those houses who don't go out every other night? Yes... But it may be extremely hard to find girls who don't drink at all. And because of that, there's going to be peer pressure. You're going to be pressured to drink even if you clearly state you don't want to. No hate to any of these three houses, but these houses are the ones that stand out to me the most in terms of constant partying.

The houses I think you may find more girls who don't drink too much/aren't big partiers is AXO and AGD. I think both houses have lots of girls who are more open minded about abstaining from drinking.

But honestly, don't rush just based off of this one aspect. EVERY house has girls who blackout on Monday nights... No matter which house you end up in, you'll find your group that supports you.

I was going to make a new thread to ask a related question, but since a fellow PNM posted this, I'll just pile on.

I don't drink as well, although I am always down to have a good time and could care less if the people around me are getting wasted. I survived high school with lots of friends, boyfriends and parties without drinking, and I plan to continue that. Personal choice, no judgements.

My question is, what happens at Swaps? It sounds like they are pretty much about getting drunk, but I'm assuming that I won't have to? I read about one theme where the guy and girl are tied together until they finish a bottle of some sort of alcohol. I'm assuming I can be a den mom or do something else that night, because it seems awfully unfair to that poor guy who will have to finish that bottle alone.

What you're describing is not a swap, it's a date party. You have to be invited by a boy. If you do get invited just don't go.

There is drinking at swaps but no one makes you drink.

I'm going to be blunt...
You will have a slightly harder time abstaining from alcohol through college. I 100% respect your decision but a lot of people won't. You'll meet boys and girls who won't want to hang out with you because they don't think you're "fun" since you don't drink. You'll also meet a lot of people who will push you to drink... A lot of college students look at drinking as a norm and they think it's weird for those who willingly choose not to.

Swaps are where a sorority has an exclusive party at a fraternity house. The girls tend to pregame together before they go over and there will be beer offered throughout the party.

Date parties are where a sorority or fraternity buys out a venue and their actives can invite a guest. Fraternities have more wild themes, like the handcuffs and bottles thing you mentioned.

Obviously, you can always attend these events sober. And you can even become the "mom" of your friend group. Or you can be a party monitor for your sorority's swaps and date parties. The biggest issue you'll find with abstaining from drinking is peer pressure.

I didn't drink at all freshman year. The key is to go to swaps with a large party cup full of your drink (diet or whatever). People will ask what you are drinking, and you can tell them, or you can lie and say it's a mixed drink. Either way, I found that people left me alone if I had a cup in my hand.
