cuts without recs?

by: pnn

are there any houses that you know will cut you if you don't have a rec? I have recs for most houses, but theres a few I havent secured yet, so I'm just checking to see what houses I still have a chance with. I'm OOS north, 3.4 unweighted gpa, and a pretty good social resume.

We can't pledge a girl without a rec. If there is a girl we really like who doesn't have one we will try to find one for her so we can pledge her, but if it comes down to 2 girls that we like and one has a rec nd one doesn't...who do you think we're cutting? Just get recs girls!!

Everyone is 100% right here. At SOME schools, perhaps even most, recs are something that will get you ahead but can't hurt. At the biggest recruitment in the country, having one per house is the bare minimum.

Sometimes I wonder if some of my recs actually got in.. I made sure to find at least two for every house but there's no telling if they were actually written, besides the ones written by family. It's hard to be a great PNM on paper and then take deep cuts after IWT

Also, women will offer to write your rec, but they don't always write you a good one. You'd be surprised how many come in with "courtesy rec" written on them which means "y'all don't want this girl." So the person writing your rec technically did submit one for you, but it actually hurt you to have it.

Make sure that you have good relationships with those you ask to write your recs. And if it's someone you don't know well, make sure you provide her with tons of info about yourself as well as pictures so she knows enough about you to write a good one.

And if you have a terrible reputation in your hometown, you can hide it from your social media posts, but we'll be told all about you in your rec. Even if you're from OOS. We get a ton of info about you from your rec.

Some sororities even have a box you can check on the rec form that says you do not recommend the person for membership.

I came from OOS, made a late decision and wasnt aware of how important recs were and I was not "well informed" about reputations etc.

I had resumes at my HS grad party and asked if people could help. It was based on who was at the party, houses they belonged to, etc. Some people got others who knew me to write recs too.

But it was random.

beleive my rush was definitely impacted by this. Top houses where I didn't have recs dropped me but when did have them I was kept.

Dropped by XO, KD and Phi Mu after IWT.

I know they cut deep in general, but I did have a full card and was kept by AXO, KKG and DDD. Two of those to pref. As well as PiPhi, ZTA, APhi, DZ, Gphi and AOP where I had recs.

I can't say you need recs at all the above, but my experience.

Houses where I didn't have recs who kept me - AGD, ADP, DG. \n\n\n\n\n

Thanks for the detail and insight.

Your process seems more genuine, as you got recs from people you knew and who are genuinely interested in you joining their sorority

Getting strangers to write recommendations to check a box, seems odd

I know you feel some racks affected your rush, but it seems you still had a great rush. I'm showing up so open-minded seem sweet!
