inactive

I just finished my freshman year and I was put on academic probation with my sorority during second semester... So now I'm going into my sophomore year and I'll be on academic probation again since my GPA still isn't up to my sorority's standard... So I was wondering if y'all think I should go inactive for the first semester of the upcoming school year? Or if anyone has similar experiences?
For my house, we're only allowed to go to one social event while on academic probation, or you can go to more if you show serious improvement (like all A's and stuff)... Idk if it's worth it to be paying thousands of dollars (again) for a social organization that's restricting me to go to the social events...

Do you think being active will help you improve your GPA (because of test banks, tutoring, study hall hours, etc?). Personally my house is where I spend the majority of my free time so for me it would be worth it, but I guess it depends on how involved you are with your house

I'm going to try and be really open minded, because I don't know what your specific situation is, but here are my thoughts:
You knew that college was going to be a challenge. You knew that sororities had minimum GPAs. You knew that sororities have resources to help you academically and you chose not to utilize them. And now you're mad because you're being held responsible for not doing what you agreed to do when you became a member? I understand that being a member of any organization can be time consuming, but they are offering you help and you're acting like you're too good for it. You say you can't justify spending money on a social organization when you can only go to one social event, but during your new member period, didn't they tell you social events are a privelege? Didn't anyone tell you sororities are about more than partying? It's supposed to be a home away from home that helps you grow to be the best version of yourself, so they're acting like your parents and giving you limitations and offering you help to bring your grades up!
If you only joined your sorority to go to parties, then decide if missing one semester of sorority-sponsored events will be worth every other semester's fun, and go to open parties in the meantime. If you joined a sorority for sisterhood, support, and personal growth, then suck it up and do your homework.

Do whatever you need to do to get your grades back up! Missing one semester of parties is so much better than possibly getting kicked out of school, and having to go somewhere else or ending up with no degree. The world will not end and you will not miss out on everything in one semester. Your sorority is doing you a favor. They want you to succeed. Use all the resources available to you.

i was on academic probation for 2 semesters and it really is hell. like stop giving the girl a hard time because academic probation is so much more than just no social events..... you lose an aspect of freedom in your house. and no matter how much you love your sorority, its hard being on academic probation. its hard seeing all your friends get ready for date parties and formals and not being allowed to go. its frustrating when you work hard but you don't get to play hard, as the saying goes.
@OP stick thru it. i completely see where you're coming from and its hard but i would stay active. good luck!!!!

Here's my opinion on it. It kind of seems like you may not be able to handle keeping your grades up and being in a sorority. Honestly, just drop. School is more important than a sorority and if you're on academic warning or whatever y'all call it you should probably just focus on your school work. Literally not trying to be rude but schools important that's why you're here.

It sounds like maybe you can't handle both, which happens. I say if your sorority has inactive status do that for a semester and see if it helps your grades. Figure out what works for you study wise and come back to the sorority later if you think you can.
