religon and politics
by: meSo if i'm not religious and for the most part a democrat, will I find my people at UA? Are there any sororities that have more of my type of girls than others?

I'm pretty much the same and I was super involved in a lot of left-leaning organizations in high school (young democrats, feminism club, etc) and i'm a little worried i might be cut by houses because of that?! super worried that rushing isn't the right decision for me even though i really want the sisterhood :/

Hey girl, your religious and political beliefs won't come up during the recruitment process, but once you are in a house you will find girl who are just like you ! I'm in a new row house rn and while most of the girls in my house are republican I'm a democrat, we don't see eye to eye but we respect each other's belief's! A true sister will accept you even if your beliefs differ from there's.

Honestly, no matter what house you end up in, there will be a Republican majority. This is Alabama. Almost everyone from the South that comes to Bama has a conservative political alignment, and truthfully, a lot of Northerners/Westerners who come to Bama do so because they want this type of atmosphere.
You will find girls in all the houses who are liberals. But it's not going to be a lot, especially in the Southern majority houses. That being said, if you're someone who doesn't know how to hold your tongue then you may want to practice that and even consider other options. Very rarely will there be politics brought into sorority life, but it's the little things that bother the more liberal bunch... Such as be expected to wear certain things, being expected to act a certain way, being expected to look a certain way, etc. I know recently, block seating was a topic of discussion in my house because it is now open for sororities to apply and a lot of girls in my houses didn't want to apply because we didn't want to upset the fraternities... And I know a lot of girls in other houses felt the same way, which is why I think only like two houses actually applied for block seating.
Overall, you can find girls in any house who believe in the same things you do... But it can be difficult especially if you're someone who always says what's on your mind or has to have the last word or whatever. If you think sorority life is for you then that's great...
