by: 000What are the rules for guys in tut? Also how do they know if a guy stays past the time to leave?

- Sunday - Thursday men can only be in the building between 10 am - 12 am
- Friday - Saturday men can only be in the building between 10 am - 2 am
I, and many other girls, have had men stay the night back in our Tut days. Security or whoever aren't going to go up to your room and make sure there are no guys unless someone rats you out or something... The people at the front desk are very chill and don't care enough to make sure that any men who come into the building leave. And I'd assume that they're pretty relaxed if a guy overstays his welcome by a few minutes. The nice thing about Bama is that, unlike a lot of other colleges, the people at the front desk don't ask visitors to give a form of I.D. to be held... That being said, it's easy to keep guys in your rooms through the night or whatever. I also heard that there's a door in the stairwell that guys tend to use if they want to leave but it's really past visiting hours? Idk I've never had a guy use that exit...

If boys think they can "do whatever they want and get away with it" that has more to do with their culture than whether or not their ID is waiting for them at the lobby. Trust me.

Enforcing a new policy where all visitors in dorms need to give a form of ID to the front desk to be held would affect everyone, not just men. Technically, Pres and all this suite style dorms have curfews for visitors too even though they're co-ed dorms... That being said, if you want to have a sleepover with a friend or whatever you're going to have a hard time.

my boyfriend stayed with me in tut this past year many many times. there is literally NO security whatsoever. its literally a joke how easy it is to get guys up there. guys even get away with showering in the community bathrooms. it was a great shock to me when i visited him at ole miss and the security guard called the cops on me for trying to go up to his room without checking in.

But you need to consider the privacy and reasonable expectations of the other girls and your roommate. I would have had a problem with a guy showering in tut and think that is totally wrong to even consider

Agree. Two years ago my roomie would camp in our room with guys and it was super annoying and made me not want to be in my own room. She did not really care and it was rude. Being polite I did not make a big deal of it but it was wrong of her to impose on my passive personality. Keep the shacking out of tut.

It is more like if you should. Be. Open and respectful with your roommate. In the beginning we had a no sleep over rule if we both were there. It worked out great her bf was older and had an apartment so he never stayed over. I had a few guys spend the night when she wasnt there no problem. Later on I got a boyfriend who also was a freshman and everyone got along but we had a rule he could stay over one night a week when she was there. But he only ever peed and brushed his teeth in the bathrooms. Id be furious if I got out of the shower and saw some guy wearing a towel in my bathroom

Please y'all plan to be respectful of others in Tut and in all the dorms. If you want to chill with a boy, don't assume its all fine unless somebody complains. Most people are too nice and non-confrontational to complain. If you want to shack, just stay with the boy and get somebody to pick you up and bring you back home so you don't have the walk of shame.... haha.

My sister goes to Ole Miss and the policy there is super strict and truthfully it's kinda nice.... because as many of us have done and said on this thread not everyone is considerate of roommates, hall mates, or anyone other than themselves!
So Tut needs to step up and hold everyone accountable since it's so dang hard for people to do it for themselves.
It is absolutely foul what they let people get away with and it won't be long until something bad happens and the girls and or their families will hold it against the university and all hell will break loose.

My sister also goes to Ole Miss and she hates their policy. Finds it 100% infantilizing. We're adults. If we are seen as mature enough to sign up for the army and die for our country, we should be able to bring guys overnight. That can and should be negotiated with your roommates without the school getting involved. It's sorta funny how many people whine about Millennials being 'babied' and yet we have policies like this... At least in my opinion!
With that being said, if Tut is gonna have those rules, they should be enforced. Either have them or don't, but the weird "will this be chill or won't it be?" space is confusing.

While I see your point Meh, you and your roommate may be able to negotiate as such but not everyone on the hall or in the dorm is ok with it.
Let's be honest most guys are staying over night after parties and tons of drinking so they need to go to the bathroom, are loud, and want to hookup. We both know the best decisions are not made by 18-19 year olds after a night of partying. So the university has to step in and make and carry out the rules because not everyone is smart and can make good decisions.

They need to beef up security and hold the ID. This is part of the too lenient tone set that makes guys think they can do whatever they want and get away with it. Just sayin.
