cuts bc of recs
by: AbcdeDoes anyone know of a house that would cut a good pnm based on not having a Rec? They are required, but I have always heard of a few girls getting surprised by a bid from one of the houses they didn't have recs for. Just curious if anyone knows that their house is more strict.

They may have thought they didn't have recs, but it's extremely possible someone wrote them a rec on their behalf without telling them.
Houses will NOT bid you without a rec. It's possible for them to get a rec for you during recruitment but that takes a lot of effort and scrambling to get it done. And why should they go through all that effort when they could bid a girl they love just as much as you but who DID have a rec?
Do yourself a favor and get those recs.

Wtf are y'all talking about. No houses require a PNM to have a rec before they extend a bid to her. If you actually research it and ask Panhellenic they will tell you that recs ARE NOT REQUIRED. Recs are a sort of bonus for PNMs to have because it shows that the PNM is serious about rushing and is serious about the houses she got recs for. Recs are not required whatsoever though, which is why you've heard stories about girls who come through rush without recs and "surprisingly" get placed in a highly sought after house. Also, I highly doubt that someone wrote a rec for a PNM without her knowing... When you ask an alum/active writes a rec she needs to fill out a form given by their nationals and she needs you to provide very personal information (address, parents names, your high school test scores and gpa, your extracurriculars, etc).

find where it says that some sororities require recs on their national websites and link it here because I'm having a hard time believing that this is a legit rule. i mean yeah i guess it may be a more secretive thing only actives and alum would know, but at the same time that doesnt makes sense for PNMs going into rush. if all the other panhellenic websites say that recs are OPTIONAL, then wouldn't panhellenic just be setting the PNMs up for failure if they choose not to get recs? and yeah i guess the house can write a rec for a girl they really want, but i mean thats a lot of recs you'd need to fill out within a matter of a few days before bid day...

I'm sure recs are a big deal in some houses but a few houses including mine on campus are not big southern houses and therefore girls have a hard time finding recs for us. Honestly if we cut based on who didn't have a rec for my house we would end up with a very small number of girls. My house was actually the only house I didn't have a rec to because I just could not find an alum.

Ok definitely a bit of an over exaggeration. TBH most top tier and old row houses probably won't give you a bid without a rec, but the lower tier houses will if they like you. Do everything you can to get recs for every house, but it's not like you'll be released from recruitment after IWT because every single house dropped you for not having recs
