Actually, yes. Not a lot, but it has happened in the past couple of years.

My mom knows how to do my hair and makeup because of competitive dance. She steamed all my clothes and did my hair in a base style every night in the hotel so all she had to do in the am was finish it and do my eyes. I live super far away so she was staying the whole week, anyway.

You do not need a hair and make up professional! Just be yourself!

So moms stay all week to do their college age daughters hair??? Do they stay in the hotel with their mom? This seems weird!

it seems weird because it is. personally, I've never met anyone who had their mom or any professional stay the week of rush to help with hair and makeup... but there are a decent amount of former pageant girls that come through and some of these girls have very hands-on and overbearing mothers who want to stay and help "just in case."
if you're a pnm, by no means is something like this of the norm. the majority of girls get ready completely by themselves, or with roommates/friends.

I'm the one who said my mom stayed in town to help me move in and stayed through bid day. About half the girls here have at least one parent that comes in for bid day. Since I wanted to see my mom for at least a couple of hours every day, I went over to the capstone hotel and she let me shower there at night and did my hair and we talked while I ate breakfast. I love my mom and it was de-stressing. Especially when I felt I had to be "on" all day with my new roommate, all her friends, my rho-chi group, and in the parties. Oh, and my mom fixed a girl on floor's dress when her zipper broke because she actually can sew, too. So, if you are lucky to have a mom like mine, bring her. If you have a crappy relationship with yours, I feel sorry for you.

It is so freaking hot your hair gets pretty bad by the end of the day. Not to mention the monsoons of last years rush. Save your money.
