act score

by: pnm

i'm OOS with a 3.8 unweighted GPA which i know is low for sororities in the top ten for grades. i also have a 34 ACT, will that give me a boost for sororities like Alpha Chi and Phi Mu or will it not be something that affects me?

did you have 2 recs per house? did your conversations go well? was your resume empty besides academic stuff?

i'm sorry to hear that you only got 4 invites after IWTs but academics are not the only thing houses look at and your experience is unusual for someone without a rep risk/some other issue so i wouldn't go around freaking out PNMs because of it.

def had at least 2 recs for all but maybe 2 houses, conversations went very well on IWT, and i thought i had a good amount of non-academic things, but i guess the activities weren't cheer captain/dance line/color guard so it wasn't good enough? and i defff wasn't a rep risk at all since i don't drink or party (which was never brought up). idk what happened but it made me v upset when i got my list on round 2

I had a 3.7 and 30 ACT and had a "perfect" rush, but my roommate had a 3.9 and a 35 ACT and got dropped by a lot of houses. High grades are definitely a good thing, but honestly after the first round when girls get cut for grades it doesn't matter all that much.

Your GPA and ACT means you also have Honors College and scholarship and probably also means you have other good activities in high school. If you are well rounded also and can present yourself well and carry on a conversation with grace and humility, you will have a great recruitment. By "great" I mean you will end up where you fit best. Focus on Fit. Focus on Fit. Focus on Fit. Focus on Fit.

What is sad for somebody with the OP credentials is if they are shy or a little less fashionable or a little less socially polished, they will end up in a house that is right for them, but then the culture of the greek system will make them think they are "lower tier". This really is so unfair.

It is not fair not because of where the pnm fits. It is unfair to call certain houses "lower tier" just because they have a certain composition on average.
