questions in a nicer way

by: tbh

My intent is solely to let PNMs know what they are getting into. I hate to see someone pledge for name and then be disappointed. Or to pledge something excitedly, and have people call her names. A description of the general vibe of the sorority is appropriate, but not slander.

SO, generally speaking....

If you care about academics, being involved and having a good sisterhood:

go where? Don't go where?

If you care about only partying, go where? I think everyone parties some, but you won't fit in some places more than others if you want to party every night.

If you want to be in SGA, go where?

If you want to be welcomed by all your sisters, go where? don't go where?\n\n\n\n\n

If you want to be with girls who are in sports, go where?

The point is to find YOUR place and to know where your personality will be welcome, encouraged and appreciated.

I want to state that EVERY house has literally every type of girl you could imagine. Yes, houses here have their "stereotype" but with 400+ girls in each chapter, not every girl is going to be a carbon copy of one another.

- If you want a house that values academics, involvement, and sisterhood: AXO, ADPI, AGD, DG, KAT, XO.
- If you want a more "social" house: APhi, ZTA
- If you want a house that will help you with SGA: All houses have girls in SGA but if you're seeking to hold a vey important position, such as the presidency, an Old Row house will help you the most because the Machine controls that aspect of SGA.
- If you want a lot of sporty girls: All sororities have a few girls involved in some type of sport but not many because athletes don't usually pledge since they're so busy.
- If you want a house with a lot of openly Christian girls: AXO, AGD
- If you want a house with girls who take a more "relaxed" approach to Greek life: AOPi, DDD, DZ, KD, KKG
- If you want a house that has a very mixed group of girls: AOPi, DZ, GPhi
- If you want to be welcomed by your sisters: AXO, ADPi, DG, KAT

This is all a bunch of gossip and is wrong in my opinion on a lot of it. If you have any lick of sense, PNMs, you will see what a house has going on when you get to recruitment. You will click if you are of their tribe, whatever that is, or you will not. I guess also for poster 2 that Phi Mu and Pi Phi just don't exist?

Some of these are such value judgements. Really, only four hours will make PNMs feel welcomed by their sisters? If that we're really the case I wouldn't be in Greek life. Whether or not you are welcomed by your sisters depends on a LOT of things, and the most important is being in a house that you feel comfortable in. You can't figure that out on GR. It only happens in real life.

Chill out... That's just my opinion. And honestly, as someone very involved in the Greek community here and as someone who has a lot of friends in most other sororities, I feel that what I said was pretty accurate. AND I actually did mention that these "stereotypes" aren't applicable for every single girl in the each house, and you would've understood that if you read the FIRST sentence of my original comment. In some of the most "friendliest" houses there will be mean and distant girls and in some of the most "social" houses there will be bookworms who stay in on Friday nights. What I said was MY perspective on our Greek community. And for each category, I listed the houses that are most known for what "type" of girl there is... So, no, there aren't just four houses that will make you feel welcomed, but there are houses that are way, way more accepting and generally nice to all their sisters (regardless of where you're from, status, wealth, etc.) and the four I listed are the ones more known for that on campus... And none of the categories I listed really fit the general vibe of Phi Mu or Pi Phi, also keep in mind there's a word limit so I couldn't go on a tangent to fit in all the houses here.
Y'all need to chill! :)

just to point out on the grades aspect, you left out Tri Delt and Phi Mu. If you're going to list Theta, you should list those two, as their semester GPAs were higher than Theta's. Also not really sure why you included DG as they were ranked 12 for Fall 2016 GPA.

#2 is about the stupidest comment I've ever seen on greek rank. Every house has every kind of girl. The girls who enjoy their sorority experience the most go into it looking for which girls they like the most, not which ones have the most posh reputation. Really, even wanting to be in your grandma's sorority isn't a good reason to choose a house if you like another one's members better.

Are you slow? Did you not read the first two sentences of the #2 comment? It was explicitly said that every house has every type of girl. Maybe if you weren't so angry all the time and ready to go off on someone you would've taken the time to read a post in it's entirety.

Here is my OPINION. Take it for what it's worth.

There are 400 girls in each house and about 140 in each pledge class.

That's more girls than in most high schools. So pnms, think about that! Even if your HS had a reputation as "rich and snobby" (as an example) did it hold for every girl?

To some extent sororities are like that. A reputation is developed based on some trends/stories but not everyone in each house is the same.

I think most girls end up with a close knit group of 5 to 15 in the house. And there are groups of studious girls in the party houses, party girls in the smart houses, plain girls in the pretty houses, pretty girls in the plain houses, etc. There IS a "bias" of some type that gives a house it's reputation, but it would not be fair to say all girls and groups fit the description for the house.

Old row is known for these groups to be formed from old high school and church friends. Sometimes these groups are cool to OOS groups in the house. Some houses are known for a more friendly attitude between these groups and/or force house wide participation in events by fining lack of participation - "good sisterhoods". Other houses more casual amongst each group and less concerned with broad participation. There are rumors of houses with drama between different groups - but I think all houses have some tensions (none unreasonable) and don't think this should be concerning.

Based on my roommate, there seems to be allot of drama between the "groups" at Phi Mu.
