Are there any older ladies on this site that actually know the deal about Old Row and the Budweiser thing. There's a lot of people saying sororities were invited to Old Row by the Old Row fraternities and that the Budweiser party so many people reference is just a lie... But a lot of people say that Budweiser wanted to endorse a party here so they invited some frats and strats.
Basically I've heard a lot of different stories of how Old Row came about so are there any ladies who actually know the truth.

The following old post on GreekChat (from "BamaPike") says:
"When I was at Bama in the mid 80's, the fraternities were Sigma Nu, Phi Gam, Phi, Deke, SAE and KA and the Sororities were Alpha Gam, KD, Chi O, Tri-Delt, Phi Mu and Kappa."

Maybe that was true in the 80s, but I was there in the 90s and AXO was Old Row but Phi Mu was not.
The fact that Budweiser is on the shirts means nothing. It was the six fraternities that handpicked six sororities - same as today: KKG, DDD, XO, AGD, KD, AXO and sometimes PM.
It's called Old Row because those six frats were the ones along "Old Row" (University Blvd) before they ran out of room and starting building g houses up Jefferson.

I was in a sorority in the mid to late 1980's that is being called an "old row" sorority above by bamapike. I can assure you in the 1980's "old row" referred to the location (University) of certain fraternity houses. "new row" was the location of Jefferson Avenue fraternity houses. Houses that were on University in the 1980s were Phi Delta Theta (used to be across the street from Phi Gam before stadium expansion), DKE (used to be across the street from where they are now before stadium expansion), Sigma Nu (same house), Phi Gam (same house), SAE (same house) and KA (just moved to new house). There was one outlier on University - Beta. They had a house that did not fit in architecturally with others - so they eventually got a new house in their same location. Every other fraternity was moved to Jefferson Avenue before the 1980's. Sometime in the early 1990's this co-ed "old row" thing started. Hope this helps and glad y'all are so interested in history! Roll Tide!
