I'm a PNM coming in from Texas too, and I understand that there will be a lot of us in sororities in Alabama. Because it's such a large state and the cities are so large, I actually don't know many other girls coming here for college, but I hear that Texas girls get treated almost the same as in-state girls. Do all the Texas girls band together after recruitment and hang out together in their hometowns during breaks (even if they didn't know each other previously) or is there an equal mix making new friends from up North and other parts of the South?

Based on what I've seen, successful girls hang out with other successful girls, regardless where they're from. If you are from Texas and you only want to hang out with other Texans, you should have stayed in state and gone to TA&M or somewhere. If you are an outgoing girl with a good personality and a fun vibe, you'll want to meet people from all over. I personally don't know any girls who just want to cluster up with people from their hometown. That's why you go to college.

Plenty of people instinctively "cluster up" with people from their hometown or home state, especially during their first semester or two when everything is new and overwhelming. If you are from NJ or CA you are more likely to seek out the other NJ or CA girls in your house, because the in-state girls aren't dealing with the same homesickness or culture shock you are. And plenty of in-state girls want to preserve relationships with their friends from high school that they know will be living in Birmingham after college ends (hello, KD.)
I think OP should definitely branch out and meet people from as many different places as possible, but I also think it's not uncommon for nervous freshmen to seek out what is familiar to them geographically as they make the transition to college. Just a thought.

the TX girls usually hang out together or with the other southern girls just because they tend to have more in common culturally. but we are talking about groups of individuals, here! if you want to make new friends with OOS girls, you should, no matter what other people from your state in your house is doing.
