for oos pnms

by: OOS

I feel like on here there is a sense that if you're OOS with no solid connections at Bama you're basically stuck going one of like 5 houses. I just want to say that as someone who was a rho chi I saw a lot of girls come in from the north/ west coast with no connections and end up going old row, "super southern" houses. While obviously most OOS girls will end up in houses that are "less southern" i don't want all the PNMs on here to get discouraged and think they have zero shot at half the houses

Agree! I was from OOS with no connections and I went Old Row, but loved several New Row houses too. As long as your grades are good, you were involved in high school, you can dress yourself decently and carry on conversations with a variety of people, you will have a ton of options. I promise!

But do not be caught up in old row.

I got the description - northern OOS and no "connections" - but good resume and recommendation letters from non Bama alumni.

Got to pref with two solid old row houses and a new row

Picked and got new row. LOVE IT. IT is where I relate.

Do t believe the crap here that new row is somehow "less". Particularly the better new row houses.

The in state girls don't want them and they may not be ranked "top" as a result. But on many measures - fun, talent, girls from interesting places, looks - new row tops old row in many ways.

Pan love. Just saying - go where YOU fit best. Don't but into the ranks.

100% agree with you! Just wanted to let OOS girls know the odds aren't as stacked against them as it looks on this site. I personally went a more "northern" house because that was where I felt at home and it was the best choice I've ever made, wouldn't change it for anything

When y'all were rushing did y'all actually notice a difference in "culture" I guess between the old row and new row houses? Like were the "vibes" different? I know atmospheres will be different in practically every house but I'm referring to the northern/southern stereotypes.

I'm OOS but from the south and you can definitely tell a difference between the vibes of traditionally southern houses and more northern ones. it was definitely noticeable in the clothes the girls wore more than anything else, though. I felt I had more "awkward" convos in the more northern houses but that couldve just been because we weren't matched well because they didnt know me. honestly dont worry about the northern vs southern thing. my traditionally southern house has plenty of OOS girls and I'm sure the same goes for the others and vice versa!!! you'll end up where you're meant to be!!!

Im from the west coast and I definitely noticed a difference in style/ what was trendy. If you want an idea go look at the instagrams of actives in old row houses

I looked up
AXO insta -- solid color sheath dress (classic, consistent)
Phi Mu insta -- designer (plus they like white flowy blouses)
KKG -- mixture, lots of prints and patterns. Some ill-fitted

I think these clothes breakdowns need to be a separate post.

This fashion/style conversation is very interesting. Might even be telling.

More insta:
ADPi -- no noticeable consistency except lots of pretty pretty blues; pattern, solids, flowy dress, sheath dress, some noticeable H&M.

DG -- solid color short sheath or shifts dress (more shifts) for recruiting and sisterhood, very casual vibe otherwise and a nice variety

GPhiB -- they love all pinks, whites, Bama reds in their shifts and sheath dress for sisterhood. Prints and happy bright colors for casual. Nice variety/mix\n\n\n\n\n

Don't wear hats for recruitment, but this post is probably more informative than ranks.

@OOS, I still don't see a big noticeable difference in the clothing from traditionally southern houses and more northern ones on their instas
