Every house can be worth it! Go in with an open mind. Try not to pay attention to what others say, especially on this website. There is not any single house that you would DEFINITELY be unhappy in. And even if there is, you won't know until you are rushing and you get to meet the girls in each sorority for yourself. And remember, in most cases, you don't pick what houses you want to go back to, they pick you.
Good luck!

I understand you are prob coming from far away, but this site is not the place to find accurate info. houses come on here to put each other down no matter how good they are.
Trust me when I say keep a open mind but also, you'll be able to get a general sense of where certain houses stand, even if you've never been on campus and didn't know anybody coming here.

Rush is going to be intensely competitive next year. Girls will be lucky to have any house. Lots of girls will be dropped.

Why will next year be any more competitive? Doesn't more girls going through rush mean a higher quota? So you're competing with more girls but there's more spots available. Houses will still want to make quota.

given that the amount of girls who usually get in is pretty high, how much is it expected to drop this year?

I think quota may not be able to be increased. That's why we're bringing another house on campus. The houses can't get any bigger at this point and they can only fit so many people.

Quota is not a preset number; it is a formula and the number changes slightly from year to year.

We have an IDEA of quota based on trend, but we won't know quota until after third round of recruitment.

Quota = Number of PNM's attending prefs divided by number of houses for freshmen. There is a separate upperclassmen quota.\n\n\n\n\n

Our rush is competitive and the week is brutal, but we don't have the most "selective" rush per say. We're lucky enough here that we can give most girls bids to houses. OP, go into rush with an open mind and you will be fine. I have friends at other schools where X number of girls sign up for rush, and less than half end up with bids. You will most likely get a bid somewhere here if you go in with a positive attitude and don't let the ranking BS on this site get to your head. Good luck!!

I feel like this needs to be said in so many threads. I think girls confuse "competitive" with "exclusive" or "selective" waaaay too often. Rush is a stressful time and you will probably get your heart broken over at least a few houses, but if you stick with it and trust the process you will be fine. A lot of other schools literally can't raise quota at their houses, so a ton of girls end up without a bid at all. Alabama is NOT like this at all, even though we do stress how competitive recruitment is (because it is).

This times 10000. I have a friend at an ACC school where she didn't think rush was that selective. She called me on her bid day crying and said she didn't even get a bid. Then she told me that over 1,000 girls rush, but they only have like 10 houses where their pledge classes are about 50 girls. Do the math, and that means literally only half the girls who signed up got bids. They didn't warn them about this or anything. If anything, we exaggerate how stressful recruitment is here so that y'all come prepared and there are no surprises. Come prepared with recs and a smile on your face and you'll be fine.

If you look at the discussion forum, look at any post titled ranks. The bottom 5 are always the same. Those 5 are the houses if anyone would say they aren't worth it it would be those. I personally don't agree with that bc you can find sisterhood in every house. But I know you want a real answer so I'm giving it to you.

Every sorority at Alabama initiates strong, accomplished women who become lifelong leaders benefiting their NPC orgs. Recently graduated Alabama sorority women are often known to apply for and attain volunteer consultant sorority positions. They are trained to travel the USA (and sometimes Canada) assisting their individual sorority's chapters for a year or two. This includes women in the 5 houses @by says are at Bama's bottom.

Please stop it, you are not a PNM coming to UA in the fall or any semester for that matter. Because if you were you would know all the rumors by now and wouldn't need to come on this site to start a lot of drama. Another thing using the word "rush" kinda gives you away mommy!

Unless mommy uses the word RUSH when speaking to daughter about daughter's future recruitment. Familiarity breeds repetition.

How would she know all the rumors if she was a PNM?

Plenty of PNMs refer to recruitment as rush colloquially, especially as a verb. "I'm rushing" is easy to say than "I'm going through recruitment."

Before I rushed, I was pretty close minded about the sororities here and always heard bad stuff about the sorority that I ended up rushing. I love my sorority and all the bad stuff you hear is usually not even true!

Don't listen to the bad stuff the majority of it is from girls who were dropped

Don't form opinions and pick the houses you want beforehand. You'll most likely end up very disappointed.
