recs

How would y'all suggest getting recs from alumni chapters when you don't know any women personally for a sorority? I have a couple where I don't know anyone personally, so I need to email the alumni chapters near me for them. What should I say in the emails and should I include my resume and everything via an attachment in that first email?? Help

Ask teachers and church members to refer you to their friends who are sorority alumnae. Some schools even have lists available. Have you pursued this?

Contact your local Panhellenic first and ask for help/advice/referrals.

Contact alumnae chapters via email if that is your only choice and introduce yourself respectfully. Talk about why you are interested in recruitment. Ask if they are able to refer you to a member that could meet you or recommend for you. It can't hurt to attach your social resume. You can always attach all your other details later if they can refer you to a person willing to write a rec (many are willing as long as you are respectful and gracious).

Most sorority women know women in other chapters, so when you meet one ask about whether she can refer you to alumnae in other groups.

ALWAYS get their postal address to write them a personal thank you note. Make writing a rec easy for them. Follow up.

It's always great to reach out to alumna and groups over facebook as well!

Honestly, I got to meet some amazing women reaching out via alumna facebook groups and online chapters. It took some persistence to get some groups to pass my name along (they are busy and they get a lot of requests), but once they did, I usually met someone for coffee and it was like a small interview. It's great practice for rush on how to make polite small talk over mutual interests. Just start now and be ready with your packets and pre-written thank you note when you meet up.

If you are going to rush, you do need RECS! Sororities select PNMs who they feel would be the best fit for their sisterhood and then make a point of meeting them and getting to know them.

If you are an amazing girl but have no rec how will they know? If you are lucky your conversations on the first days might get you noticed but those are odds you should not count on.
