chi o?
by: pnmi really like chi o because they have such a high GPA and seem really involved on campus which is exactly what i want from my sorority. however, i am OOS and don't have any "connections" in alabama so i feel like i don't have a chance at a "top tier" house like chi o as much as i like them... any advice? where do OOS girls go if they aren't smokeshows/big partiers?? should i even rush?

Last I checked I'm entitled to my opinion nice enough girls but I don't consider them top and no I was not dropped by them sensitive much?

GR is full of stereotypes, and people who unfortunately believe that there are 400 girls in each house that fit the stereotype to perfection.
Sorry, but this just isn't the case. The idea that there is "pressure" to party is just ridiculous
You don't know who you're going to like until you get here. And I would really suggest you do not use GR stereotypes to try to figure it out
I am in a house with the reputation as a "party "house, and we are not top of the grade list. I really like the girls in the house when I rushed and within that house there are many girls who study hard and don't go out all that often. And, there is absolutely no pressure to party
But when I do want to go out I love my sisters, have a great time with them, we laugh a lot, and have a great time!
Guess I feel like I have the best of both worlds.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely keep an open mind and stereotypes are not everything. I was just momentarily freaking out because I worry i wont be able to find my sisterhood without having a bunch of connections. I appreciate all the advice here though!

There are definitely houses where partying is heavier, and even mentioned during rush. That doesn't mean there is pressure but you definitely need to know what you are getting into and where you would be comfortable.
There are nice girls in every sorority but to say that some are not, in general, wilder is misleading. And if you do want a sorority that is involved on campus, there are some that fit that more than others.
Certain sororities enjoy their reputation for being laid back... some are very laid back to the point of little involvement at all ... but you have the right to know the general vibe of the house you are joining.

lol i actually am a pnm? i am interested in plenty of other sororities here (adpi/agd/axo which were all mentioned above) but anyone can go online and look up the grade reports... sorry if that looks like "self ranking" but it's not.

I'm a XO, from OOS and didn't know a single person in the house. If you have a high GPA, were involved in high school and are outgoing and easy to talk to during rush, you will have your pick of almost any house you want, including Chi O. Just keep a positive attitude and enjoy rush as much as you can. It's a once-in-a lifetime experience!

I'm sorry but even if someone has all of those qualities, that doesn't mean they can pick any housebthey want. A lot of the time it IS connections that will be the little push one girl can have over the other - same qualities and everything. Many women fall under the cracks no matter how great they are. And some women who aren't that great can have an amazing rush just by knowing people.
I'm glad you had a good rush experience but u shouldn't make claims like that when it's not all that accurate

So true @not true above! I felt like lots of girls feel through the cracks. It's all fine. Truth is, many top tier , mid tier and lower tier girls all seem the same! and no im not bitter. I have friends in every house and all worked out great. Simply trying to help future PNMs.

I have come to Bama several times this year to visit my sister who is in a house there
I am in a different house at a different school And would be curious about what the girls from my house are like at Bama
Were from out of state so no high school friends and connections
But in my opinion when you see a group of girls going to a game or on the way to a Darrow or going out at night wihem they are not wearing letters it's really impossible to guess which house they may be in And often when you find out, you are surprised
Same when you see girls and letters walking around. You find yourself often saying to yourself, she doesn't seem to fit the reputation.
I'd say similarity is the story, not differences

I'm from out of state and I rushed with 0 connections. didn't even decide I was going to alabama till may. Ill be honest with you. ya they're a good house but theres a lot of good houses on this campus. your chances aren't as great if you're from out of state with chi o because they take mostly southern girls/ girls who know people in the house, but don't let that discourage you. If you don't like to party maybe don't go zeta, alpha phi, pi phi, or kappa. Def rush, I know girls who didn't rush here and they're miserable

Sorry I'm a little late on this - it's not that I don't like to party, it's just that I prioritize academics and involvement much over partying and I would prefer to be in an organization that does the same.

The similarities really outweigh the differences. The party houses have girls who stay focused on academics. The academic houses have girls who focus on parties
Look at the great report closely, throw out the high and low, and houses are between 3.2 and 3.5. In the grand scheme of things, the difference really isn't huge. One is half As half Bs, The other, one quarter A three quarters B. That is in the aggregate across all girls in the house
For example, there are girls in the houses with some of the lower house GPAs getting into med school.
And although there's no party hours ranking on Panhellenic, trust me, in the houses with the higher grades there are a few girls bringing it down, or in the majors that allow for high grades with a lot of party \n\n\n\n\n
