getting bid/fitting in from east coast
by: OOS PNMI'm coming from NJ and I am definitely planning on rushing. I'm really nervous about getting a bid from sororities because of being OOS and not from the South. Also, will I fit in at the campus in general? I've heard rumors of people being really cold towards OOS girls (not accusing, just referencing) and I wanna know how well I would be able to fit in on campus and in a sorority

You will be welcome here
Don't like to tell tales on GR about any specific house , but it's fair to say old row accepts a fair number of non southern out of state girls. Even the house with the reputation as the most "Alabama centric".
That being said, Bama is "conservative" with respect to values, appearance and views. Given you are posting on GR, I suspect you are in the "mold" of sorority girl and given that, acceptance wont be a concern.
The further you stray from that "preppy" mold the harder acceptance may be to find - northern or southern.

I'm also from NJ and I had no problem fitting in during recruitment. I wouldn't necessarily say you have to fit any certain type of 'mold' to join a sorority at Bama, especially since there are 400+ girls in every house; everyone is different and you'll find your group in whichever house you end up in. There are a lot of houses who take OOS girls so don't worry. Enjoy recruitment and focus on finding your home!

i'm from the east coast also and there are deffinately a few sororities that won't take you and even if they do you most likely
will not fit in well/ enjoy your time there. But, there are a lot of other sororities that take girls from everywhere and that's where I found my home! You shouldn't worry at all!
