touring alabama and greek life this summer

by: Alabamahopeful

I'm a highs school junior that is touring The University of Alabama this summer and would love to attend. The main factor for me is Greek life. Is there a way I can hang with a sorority or go to Frat parties although I don't know anyone that attends. I live in the midwest so I don't know anyone, but still want to party and see Greek Life. How do I do so during my visit? Thanks

If you're basing your decision of where you go to college off of Greek life and parties then maybe you should reevaluate why you're pursuing higher education. College is not all about parties and if you think it is then no sorority will want you, except for Alpha Phi and Zeta.
You can request a tour of the houses but you'll need to know someone in the house in order for the tour to be conducted. Frat parties are open to any college girls.

I have a 4.0 GPA and am very involved in clubs and academics. Greek Life is just something that I am considering while looking at schools as well. I'm also looking at schools that don't even have Greek life like Notre Dame.

Spot on!!!!

Prior comment was out of line. Mean. And distasteful. .

Social life is part of college selection. Even for smart and studious students. Fun and smarts are not mutually exclusive.

Call attention to the hate on all houses.

To the OP - it is hard if not impossible to get an experience of Greek life in a tour and during the summer. Try to connect with a Greek student and perhaps you can plan a weekend to stay with them next fall.

Most if not all houses close for summer after final exams and reopen for rush activities. Visiting in Fall or spring with more students on campus would be more ideal. During toes times Panhellenic can probably arrange a tour through Greek ambassadors. Good luck and roll tide!

The sorority houses are shut down during the summer, so you won't be able to tour them. most of the fraternties stay open and host prospective members and, yes, parties all summer.
Beware of the parties. You could get a certain reputation while still in high school.

You can schedule a tour of a sorority house but you'd have to know an active in the house in order to do so. Also the sorority houses close over the summer, and anyways, you wouldn't even be allowed to interact with them because the no contact period starts May 1.

Fraternities have parties regularly throughout the year. I'd highly suggest not going to them though because first of all, it's a huge liability problem if say you were to get hurt or seriously intoxicated or whatever and they find out you're underage AND not even a student here... Secondly, sorority actives know the ins and outs of this campus like the back of their hands. Sororities already know hundreds of PNMs coming in this fall, they have your names and they know what you look like. Easiest way to not get a bid is by creating a bad reputation for yourself before you've even moved in, even if you didn't mean to.
