rushing

by: PNM

Im going to be a freshman next fall and I am so excited! I plan on rushing, but I have some concerns. To start I am from the north and I know some sororities pref girls primarily from the south. Also, I have a 3.15 gpa currently though I do plan on raising it hopefully to a 3.2 after second semester. I have a couple of extra curriculars / volunteer hours, and at least one rec per house. If someone could give me their honest opinions on how many house I may be dropped from solely from my grades, since I know there are so many other factors they look at, that would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any little pieces of advice that'd be great too! :)

My guess is you get dropped by about five on grades alone.

You need to get your grades up, more than just one rec per house and a few extra, extracurriculars or volunteer projects on your resume. Leadership positions and things like homecoming court, prom queen, class officer helps too.

There are at least six houses that will have to cut you first round because of your GPA. Don't take it personally - it's a requirement of their nationals.

Which houses? And does the GPA requirement change if it's a high school GPA vs a college GPA from a sophomore rushing?

AXO
XO

AGD
KKG
ADPi

I don't think it matters high school vs college GPA.

@4 is right to the extent the listed houses do make a hefty amount of grade cuts at the 3.2ish level. That said, other than AXO, every one of those houses take pnms that are well below 3.2 -- I don't care about the spin. I know who they are friends of mine. So there are "exceptions". The thing for an OOS, though, is that the exceptions are almost always going to be very popular in-state PNMS that have lots of in-house pull going for them.

Cuts are necessary and really not personal. Especially during rounds 1 and 2.

Everyone gets cut from houses during rounds. It's the only way to narrow the numbers.

You will find a home -- Focus on the houses not mentioned by #4. There are plenty of them.

Pi Phi has a grade requirement as well. You will definitely get dropped from us as well if your GPA is bellow a 3.2.
