Yeah because dues are a big part of it. Don't want you going on financial probation.

If a house drops you because they don't think your family is wealthy enough, then why would you want to be in that house any way? Trust the process.

No, but we do like to choose girls that we already know, or know about. Girls from certain schools, churches, summer camps, country clubs, etc. where actives also come from will already have somewhat of an "in" with us because of the existing personal connections, not because of the wealth factor. We also tend to choose girls who look stylish and well-put-together, though this does not mean that we are checking for certain labels or brands; girls can wear cute outfits and accessories that look good on them without spending a lot of money. Sororities can be expensive, so the ability to pay dues is the part where money matters, for practical purposes, but we're not interested in wealth for wealth's sake.

I like the way you worded this! And honestly PNM's rushing- you should know ahead of time how much they cost. If you can't afford it then you shouldn't rush and take someone else's spot who CAN pay to be there and won't end up dropping for that reason!

The richest aren't necessarily targeted, but we def need to know if you can't afford it....like the girl whose family had declared bankruptcy a few months before she went through...she was dropped because those who knew the fam knew they could not afford it.

The houses that factor this in aren't necessarily looking for the richest girls, they just want to make sure you can pay your dues. I don't think it's intended to be a snobby thing. If half of the members can't pay dues, the house can't pay its bills, mortgage, etc.

look you don't have to be a millionaire, but the sorority wants to know that your family can afford it. Actives may ask where you went on vacation, if it's Hawaii vs. Orange Beach, good indicator you can afford dues. Or ask if you did cotillion, shows your parents are probably in a country club. Yes, this is totally superficial, but my sorority is old row and conscious about this stuff. I'm not saying it's right.
