new sorority

by: Friend

Now, I have no idea if this is true but I've heard from some people that panhellenic is open to a new sorority and I was wondering if this were true? Like i said, it was just a rumor but if it is true then who would we get?
The only sororities left that I can see doing okay is Sigma Kappa or Alpha Xi Delta

The possibility of a new sorority coming to UA is very high, but no where soon. Once ALL the sororities have finished their construction, then our Panhellenic board probably will reach out to establish one/two more chapters. Once all the sorority houses are done building, there will be two vacant houses available, so it only makes sense for the university to establish another chapter or two.

it was voted that the Panhellenic board is going to move forward with finding a new sorority to come to campus. It should be here in the Fall of 2018 but they are just in the very beginning stages of choosing who it will be. no way to tell now

I think tri sig could be another good option!

Sigma Kappa would be the mostly likely because they've had a chapter here, and there are some alumnae.
AXD is less likely. They've had two goes of it and people were horrible to them. SK has also tried twice, but the last closure was due to a split in the house (or so I was told) and they voluntarily gave up their charter.
Tri-Sig just established a chapter at Auburn. It's a fairly small sorority nationally, and very, very few alumnae. It's possible, but I can't see it, financially.

Was definitely interested during the last extension -- they presented along with APhi and DG.

Why were they horrible to AZD?

AXiD was a weak, struggling chapter at Bama for most of its history (1927-1972, 1981-1988). They recolonized in 1981, but they couldn't make it work due to tiers, tent talk, their old reputation, and lack of RFM. Other Greeks were cruel to them just because they could be.

AXiD is also a weak national. Their few southern chapters struggle and their chapters at schools in other areas aren't top tier either. They just don't have any decent name recognition anywhere and not many alums because of their size. Tri Sig would also have trouble here for the same reasons and I honestly don't think SK would have a good time of it either. We're kind of out of the sororities that could support a chapter at a huge Greek school like ours especially one that can afford to pay for and service the debt on the kind of house that's needed here.

ADPi and DG are strong southern sororities. APhi is weak in the south but strong in many other areas, and even they struggle with our culture. So those three had decent success coming here, but I don't see anyone else who could do the same.

I think Sigma Kappa would be the most likely choice out of all the sororities not currently here.

The chapter at Auburn is lower middle, although they've been better in the past and have slipped a bit.

The chapter at Tennessee is toward the bottom but improving.

The chapter at Florida is kinda like Gamma Phi here -- at the bottom for many years but poised to move up thanks to a new house.

Their strongest chapter in the SEC is at UGA. Solid upper middle with pretty girls, good grades and involvement, and a beautiful house. They also have a strong chapter at NC State.

Would be so fun if AZD or SK joined!

Tri-sig is probably too small nationally to do well here. Even when they get on campus at most places they don't do particularly well. I have a friend at Mizzou and tri-sig is the lowest sorority there. I think it's like that at most other bigger schools.

Yeah Panhellenic voted to add up to four sororities. I think four is kind of a stretch given the remaining groups and the cost of coming here but hopefully we'll get at least 2

if any, Sigma Kappa would be the best choice. They've done decently well at other southern campuses and is nationally run very well. Out of the rest of the sororities, they are the most put together.

If AZD and SK both joined... chapter total could reduce to approx. 350 which would be a positive benefit to everyone.
(Assuming our current Chapters promoted these new ones as good sororites to join and didn't rank them as last resort)
