lets talk about nationals
by: :)Since the majority of stuff on this site is only based on chapters of each sorority, lets talk about the nationals of them.

For all you PNMs on this site, something you should all take into serious consideration when rushing is how strong a chapters nationals are. Of course, you all want a sorority that is "considered good" at the school you're attending, but you should deeply look into the nationals of the sororities, especially if you're rushing because you want a sorority that will provide you with "strong connections in the future" that many of us say we want.
Examples:
Chi Omega is a upper middle tier house here and has extremely strong nationals and a variety of alums in many different fields, including Harper Lee.
Kappa Alpha Theta is a bottom tier house here , however, they're the first sorority ever founded and also have exceptional nationals (they have a very extensive list of alums some of which Laura Bush and Tory Burch).
Phi Mu is arguably the top house here, however it is notably a southern sorority, so alums of high standing may be hard to find; many notable alumni are in the entertainment industry if that means anything to you.
Delta Zeta is the bottom house here, and they don't have strong nationals. They have a few notable alums, but there are definitely better sororities that will provide you more and better future connections.
Those were just some examples of some sororities and their strength of their nationals/notable alums. Every sorority has notable alums, however, just be advised that not every sorority has nationals that have a strong influence.

Just my opinion but if you are joining a sorority to get ahead in business, there are much better ways. Harper Lee is not going to help you get a novel published and some random Phi Mu in the "entertainment industry" isn't going to help get you a job on Broadway. You will need to work hard, make excellent grades, impress your professors, do graduate work, work extensively on making and keeping connections, interning, etc. to succeed in your career. You may be able to have a nice conversation if someone sees you're in their college sorority on your resume. However, you also my lose the chance at a job because the person looking at your resume hates greeks. For that reason, most people don't list greek affiliation on their resume. My advice is to look at this as a social group and choose some girls you want as your lifelong friends. Don't choose people you think you can use to get ahead.

If you want to know how connected you might be after graduation, look at where a sorority has alumni chapters across the country. These are the people who could possibly help you get your foot in the door somewhere, but you have to make an effort like @nationals said. Being in a sorority doesn't give you some sort of magic pass from hard work. When an interviewer asks your strengths, you aren't going to mention that you're in Tory Burch's sorority! Famous alumni are nothing more than fun trivia among your friends.

These posts are silly. Yes...a lasting bond is formed by fellow members of one's sorority or fraternity and these bonds can exist in your professional life too but to think it gives you a huge advantage is just not correct. It's designed to round out a college experience but by no means should pnms think it defines you as a person and offers you huge opportunities post graduation.
