no connections?

Will you have a bad rush if you don't know any of the girls in any of the houses? What are things I can do to make me stand out and not get cut because of that?

Honestly no, some houses it is most definitely an advantage to know people in in order to get a bid but it isn't necessary for any of them

Define bad.

If you get caught up in this GR crap and decide you must have a top house (despite not knowing anyone there) it is likely to be "bad".

But do truly should ask why you would want that. "Top" as defined here means members are known by each other from certain areas or otherwise fit a narrow mold. The "old row". If they don't find you to be one of them, then why such a desire to be with them for the next four years. As some one noted, being in a group you don't like can be a lonely thing despite the "rank".

Ninety five percent of girls who rush get placed and the five percent that don't probably played their cards terribly wrong in some way: Suicided, closed off reasonable options, quit, etc

Really, you should be fine.

Just curious, how fine would you be if you were transferring there as a sophomore? Do the circumstances change but so much?

I'm from an Atlanta suburb, went to public school and only knew a Zeta active when I went through rush. I pledged an old row sorority, so no, you don't have to know someone in a house to get a bid, but it does help. I did have a really high GPA, homecoming court, senior class officer, highly involved at school, etc, so all of that helped me to have a goood rush regardless of not knowing anyone.

No, you won't have a bad rush! I came into rush not knowing a soul and ended up in a top house. As long as you have good grades and are good at carrying on conversations you will be just fine! Don't worry about it!

I came to Alabama literally knowing no one, and being rushed by only a few sororities, but not even the one I really wanted! I knew I wanted a certain house but they are old row and of course seem to only let girls in that are already known. However, if you click with the girls you talk to and have a truly fun and kind personality... everything will fall into place. I did attend the spring teas and I feel as if that helped me get my foot in the door, I definitely recommend that if you want to start getting your name out there! I know this to be true now more than ever being on the other side of rush and seeing how things work out. With pledge classes being so large, there's plenty of room for "rush finds" and we love them just the same as the in state / girls with connections!

How do you go about the spring tea situation?

I thought sororities weren't allowed to look at PNM's Instagram's and follow them? That's against the rules?

Dictate that actives cannot follow PNM's AFTER the May deadline. Prior to that, you're fair game and you can follow actives, too. If you already are following them, you cannot do anything more than like their status and vice versa AFTER the May deadline. If there are any messages exchanged after that May deadline, houses can get in a lot of trouble. But, if you are public on your Facebook and Insta, anyone can see you, hopefully for the good. You can go private ( and really should) after formal recruitment. It's simple PR and you should put your best self out there!

Dear PNMs, You have a 90 to 95 percent chance of getting a house. And all the houses are giant with 400 members and do everything Greek you will want to do!

IF... you insist on joining only certain houses the percentage chance is about 25 percent.

Do you just show up for Spring Teas or what? If its an invite only thing how do I get an invite?

by: spring teas

Are usually by invitation. It is tacky at most houses to just show up unless they specifically say it is ok. I only went to 3 spring teas and went to prefs to none of those houses. Honestly, all the houses have a lot of girls and all are more similar than this site proclaims. I would have been happy at any of the houses here and I am friends with girls in other houses. In the end I loved a house that I had a comfortable connection with on day one and I love my girls!
