dke nationally to soon no longer exist

by: Greek Guru

DKE may be on its last legs nationally with far more closed than open chapters. Sources say they are in negotiations with Lambda Chi Alpha, and Sigma Phi Epsilon to be absorbed by either of those two much stronger fraternities. DKE being upper middle tier to top tier at UA is about the only chapter of DKE that is not considered bottom tier if not the bottom at all their chapters. If DKE folds which letters would the UA chapter rather replace their letters with when the DKE letters come down?

I heard talk for this in my fraternity for over a month and I am not DKE, LXA, SC or Sig Ep. My guess is you will see ΛΧΑ or ΣΦΕ letter within a year as the DKE sign comes down forever.

DKE was the first frat at UA. There is one frat that makes the most sense to absorb DKE as it is an Old Row house now on Jefferson. It has been at UA longer than 3 Old Row frats, it is also one of the largest national fraternities, I believe their old house prior to moving to Jefferson St. was in the location of DKE's new house. Makes more sense than LXA or Sig EP.

Is that Sigma Chi?, because I understand they are struggling also with many lawsuits and they will soon also go the way of SAE and switch from a "traditional pledgeship"hell week" to a 24 hour Instant Initiation.

Where was the kappa Sig house before moving to Jefferson ?

There were several houses on Marrs Spring Rd, if I recall correctly Kappa Sigma was located there along with Pike and one other. Marrs Spring Rd is basically gone now because the Business School library sits on that area.

Whew that was a LONG time ago. 1950s, '60s? Early 1970s, they were on the east end of University. Seems like they moved to the west end at some point. They were pretty strong back then.

There are a LOT of fraternities out there with no Alabama chapter. I would think the local DKEs would chose to affiliate with a fraternity with no current chapter, but it really depends on how their house ownership is structured and their legal obligations to DKE national. Follow the money, you know.

Meanwhile, the NPC sororities - with their insistence on no hazing and no booze in the house - are stronger than ever.

When will you foolish men ever learn?

Found a picture of a map from 1941 for the campus, makes for interesting viewing. Now I know where first circle came from based on it.

hxxp://cartweb.geography.ua.edu/lizardtech/iserv/calcrgn? cat=North%20America%20and%20United%20States&item=States\ Alabama\Counties\tuscaloosa\\Tuscaloosa1941a.sid&wid=100 0&hei=900&props=item(Name,Description),cat(Name,Desc ription)&style=simple/view-dhtml.xsl

replace the xx with tt to see it, GR doesn't allow links.

I understand Kappa Alpha Order and Chi Phi are also actively putting out feelers to be absorbed by a healthy national fraternity. Basically any fraternity that uses traditional "hazing and hell week" and the injuries and even death that brings are being sued out of exsistance. SAE went from one of the hardest hell week to having now having a policy to give full membership to their pledges within a week of their bid. Sigma Chi another with a tradition of a harsh Pledgeship will soon enact something a "instant" full membership where they have 24hours from when a pledge is given a bid to make him a full initiate.

That's 24 hours longer than SigEp.

May be small, but they're wealthy, exclusive, and elite. (Dubya, anyone?)

Where do you hear all of this information? I can't believe alums of any of these fraternities would ever want to be absorbed by another fraternity.

Local slums don't have a choice it is coming from nationals. ΔΚΕ either merges or folds.
